  • The game is only available on PC so far.

Dead by Daylight developers have unveiled a brand new, completely free-to-play roguelite adventure game called What The Fog.

Set in the world of Dead by Daylight, What The Fog has done the unimaginable: allowing the Survivors of the Entity's realm to escape. Or at least, allowed fan-favorites Dwight Fairfield, Claudette Morel, and Feng-Min to escape.

But while an escape sounds great on paper, the reality is they've all been sucked into a cursed board game realm where they'll need to work together to try and survive.

What The Fog can be played with a friend for some co-op action, though as we learned during our press briefing with Behaviour Interactive, it can also be played by yourself.

As Dwight, Claudette, or Feng, the way to succeed is teaming up to earn Bloodpoints, repair generators, and then unlock the exit doors to escape.

However, don't expect the same gameplay as you would from the original Dead by Daylight game. Instead, each run will be procedurally generated to showcase fierce combat and whimsical platforming—all of which are easy to grasp and action-packed. Unlike Dead By Daylight, you can fight back against everything that's out to kill you with items and equipment like a magical wand and an energy-infused crossbow.

Even if you die, players aren't forced to stand on the sidelines like in Dead by Daylight. Your buddy, NPC or not, can get you back into the game lickety-split.

As far as we know, there will be no Killers from the original game in What The Fog, nor will there be more Survivors added to the game outside of what's already been established. However, as Mathieu Cote, Game Director on Dead by Daylight and Head of Partnerships at Behaviour Digital, told us during the press briefing, support for What The Fog isn't out of the question. But, as of now, the game will remain as it is.

What the Fog is available now exclusively on Steam. It has not been confirmed whether it will be released on other platforms in the future.
