Konami Invites Indie Devs To Revive Classic Titles in New Contest

Konami revealed the Action & Shooting Game Contest for indie creators and developers to create their own action and shooting games based on some of the publisher's well-known titles (thanks Game Industry Biz).

Contest participants can choose a character, mechanic, or any other elements featured in past Konami titles, then create a remake, sequel, or mix the two, and develop an original concept around their choices.

The winning developer will be awarded ¥2 million ($18,000), and if Konami decides to publish a game from the entries, they may invest up to ¥30 million yen ($271,000) to help the process.

They will also be supervising the project, as well as mentoring and promoting the developer.

There are around 80 games listed to choose from, including games such as Gradius, Star Soldier, Ganbare, Twinbee, and Yie Ar Kung Fu. Though more renowned titles such as Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and Silent Hill aren't listed, rumours suggest that upcoming games for those franchises are currently being developed.

Submission began last September 30 and the deadline for entries will be up to January 6 of next year. Make sure to follow us for more gaming news and updates.
