Amiibo compatibility has become routine for Nintendo titles and fans are asking if this will be the same for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
These quirky collectables are used to grant bonuses in-game to their corresponding video game.
Many Amiibos will work across multiple games and as Animal Crossing already has a collection of them, will they work with Animal Crossing Switch?
Keep up to date with everything Animal Crossing by watching below!
What Are Amiibos?
Amiibos communicate wirelessly with the Nintendo Wii U, 3DS and Switch.
First launched back in 2014, these figurines used near field communication (NFC) to interact with supported video game software, allowing data to be transferred in and out of games and across multiple platforms.
Amiibos can come in two forms - Figurines and cards. They are essentially the same thing, but obviously they look very different.
Will Animal Crossing New Horizons Support Amiibos?
Aya Kyogoku and Higashi Nogami, the lead developers for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, confirmed last year that the newest game will support Amiibos.
Compatibility will be available for both the figures and cards - although the details are unknown.
Animal Crossing has released a series of Amiibo cards and figures in the past.
If you already own a figure or card from Animal Crossing, they should work with the new Switch title.
In addition to this, the new Direct mentioned Amiibo support.
Will New Horizons Feature New Amiibos?
For a big launch title like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it's likely new Amiibos will be made for the occasion.
