It's been a long time coming, but after years of incremental updates, Tencent's premier mobile battle royale has finally approached the big PUBG Mobile 2.0 update. Like the 1.0 patch back in the day, its main feature is a map rework that we'll talk about a little below, but we're going to cover a few other basics as well; like the PUBG Mobile 2.0 release date, and how you can download it.
As is the norm with PUBG Mobile, the patch details have been shared ahead of time, leaving us with lots to look forward to and few surprises to talk about. And with most either leaking from its Chinese counterpart or the test servers, you likely already know what to expect. What you won't know, however, is when you'll be able to play.
For more on the mobile battle royale, read up on what PUBG Mobile 1.9 brought. It doesn't hurt to compare its offerings to that of this big patch. And if you're a big fan of close-quarters combat, you'll want to know all about the best shotguns in PUBG Mobile for your next match.
PUBG Mobile 2.0 Release Date
The release date for the massive new PUBG Mobile 2.0 patch is set for May 10, 2022.
Coming just a few days after the official trailer went up, the lead time on this one has been comparatively short next to previous updates. PUBG Mobile has always endeavoured to have one update go live each month, but the timing has never been consistent.
How Do I Download PUBG Mobile 2.0?
Another layover from past PUBG Mobile updates is how you'll go about downloading this one.
To download the PUBG Mobile 2.0 update, you'll need to rely on your device's app store of choice. So if you're on Android, load up the Google Play Store. For iOS users, the App Store is where you'll find it.
If the game doesn't automatically update for you that way (which sometimes only happens if you're plugged in, charging, and away from your phone) you'll want to search for PUBG Mobile in the store itself. Where the 'Install' or 'Open' button would usually be, you should see an 'Update' button instead.
The PUBG Mobile 2.0 patch will be large - typically around 1.6Gb on Android and 2.4Gb on iOS, so make sure you're on WiFi if you don't want to eat through your data. If the update fails, check to ensure you have enough free space on your device. You sometimes need more than the actual download amount for the install to take place, so keep that in mind.
If you don't use your device's official App Store, don't have access to things like Google services, or play on an emulator, you can download the PUBG Mobile APK directly. Either download it on your Android device or transfer it from a PC/Mac. You'll need to enable third-party installs for this to work, but you likely already have if you're going this route.

Livik 1.0
Officially out of beta following its lengthy testing state, Livik has been completely reworked again.
This small map has been great for short and sweet Battle Royale matches in the past, with SMG and Shotgun use typically ruling the roost. It's also where the iconic FAMAS first made its appearance, where it decimated the competition alongside the legendary P90 SMG.
The new Livik features the UTV four-seater ride for squads, a high-tier loot zone at the start of each match, minigames like Soccer Challenge, ziplines for fast traversal, and Treasure Maps that direct you to resource-rich random crates.
Recall Towers return to call fallen squadmates back into the fight as well. But at the literal heart of it all is the Livik Volcano - an omnipresent natural disaster waiting to force players indoors, where most of the map's best battles happen.
PUBG Mobile Evangelion Crossover Event
Having taken on Resident Evil, Metro, Godzilla, and Jujustu Kaisen in the past, the latest PUBG Mobile crossover event brings the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion into the game.
Details are sparse on this one right now, but the teaser trailer paints a picture that's similar to the Godzilla vs Kong event. One of the franchise's iconic mechs will tower above select maps and partake in a battle you might want to steer clear of. Expect a bunch of other collaborative events to coincide with this one.
Emilia
Another feature that's been glossed over by the official announcement is Emilia - the Materials Scientist.
Dubbed as a brand-new character able to "provide players with new equipment", we're not sure whether this is a new playable character like Andy with a weapon drop skill, or a character similar to the Metro Cash exchange.
Minor Improvements
No PUBG Mobile patch is complete without a few minor adjustments. Here's what else you'll stumble across in the latest update.
- Wingman Finishes
- Available thorugh Lucky Spin from May 17–24, Wingman Finishes are cosmetic characters who join you on Spawn Island, during the jump phase, and in the lobby.
- Visual improvements
- UI upgrades
- Anti-hacking improvements (Eagle System and Fog of War)
- New shop sets like Crystal Power Squad, Interstellar Chimera, Floret Fairy, Sacred Eminence, and Styx Sovereign.
- Battle Pass progress visible in the mini-map just like Fortnite.
When Is the New PUBG Mobile Royale Pass? - PUBG Mobile New Season Release Date
Cycle 2 Season 6 of the PUBG Mobile Royale Pass is set to launch on May 19, bringing with it a new season of ranked play as well.
The new Hidden Hunters theme will, as ever, let you choose a skin from previous seasons if you manage to make it to level 50. There's talk of the Toy World theme coming back for next month, a server-wide Golden Chicken event, and another way to earn bonus Royale Pass points in the future.
For now, that's about all there is to say on the PUBG Mobile 2.0 update topic. Most of the good stuff will land alongside the patch, but in true PUBG Mobile fashion, a lot of it will trickle out as we edge closer to next month's assumed 2.0.5 patch.
