When playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, your character will earn ability points that can be spent in the skill tree. Through this mechanic, you can choose Geralt's exact build and which skills he will develop. You only get so many skill points, however, and a poor build might make the later game a struggle.
Fortunately, we explain exactly how to reset skills, regain ability points, and respec your character buildusing the Potion of Clearance.

How to Reset Skills & Respec Your Build in The Witcher 3
There is only one way to reset the skill tree of your character and regain all your ability points back in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. With the help of the Potion of Clearance, you can reset your character build entirely. The elixir can only be consumed once, but it will reset Geralt's skills and all of his ability points will then be able to spend all over again, as you see fit. So, how do you get your hands on the Potion of Clearance?
How to Get Potion of Clearance in The Witcher 3
There are two ways in which your character can get the Potion of Clearance in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. These are either by purchasing it from a merchant, or by starting New Game+. The elixir is particularly pricey, but is certainly worth it if you find that Geralt's build isn't suitable for an endgame boss battle. So, we recommend picking the potion up whenever you can.
New Game+
We explain exactly how to start your game of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in New Game+ mode here. Essentially, NG+ grants players the ability to start the game again, keeping their characters level, Crowns, and a select amount of gear. Enemies and items will also be scaled higher, so players have a real challenge in this mode.
Whenever a player starts their game in New Game+, a Potion of Clearance is automatically added to the character inventory. This grants you the opportunity to reset Geralt's skills and respec his build again before starting a new adventure.
Purchase From Merchants
If you don't want to start a new game of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, that's understandable. Luckily, there are a handful of merchants you can purchse the Potion of Clearance from in both the base game and the Blood and Wine DLC. The elixir will cost the same no matter where you buy it from, and it will be at the staggering price of 1000 Crowns.
Base Game Merchants
- Keira Metz (one of Geralt's many romance options)
- Yolar
- Gremist
- Unnamed Merchant Shop in Gildorf, Novigrad
Blood and Wine Merchants
- Merchant in Hauteville Perfumery
- Herbalist in Coronata Vineyard
- Herbalist in Castel Ravello Estate
- Herbalist east of Lazare Lafargue
Of all the merchants listed above, some will require you to carry out various additional quests before you can purchase the elixir. With this in mind, the easiest merchant to buy the potion from is the unnamed merchant located in Gildorf, Novigrad. This merchant will not ask you to complete any quests and you will be able to immediately buy the potion. If you're only going to need the Potion of Clearance once, he is ideal!
