Is Alan Wake 2 open world?

No, Alan Wake 2 is not open world.

Instead, the game takes a more linear, level-based design with you being directed on where to go by the game. Consequently, the game plays out more like a movie or book, with the player taking Alan or Saga through a predetermined storyline.

However, even though there isn't an open world full of side missions and tasks, you'll still be able to explore locations in Alan Wake 2 as you play through them. Some areas will have rare collectibles for you to acquire, while other places may have puzzles for you to complete to reveal hidden areas. Equally, areas will generally be larger for you to explore and find secrets.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise, because the original Alan Wake game wasn't open world either. None of Remedy's other recent games, like 2019's Control, had an open world to explore, focusing on linear gameplay and a focused narrative. As such, it makes sense that Alan Wake 2 follows this trend.
