Looking for the best Path of Exile 2 classes? As we write this piece, six Path of Exile 2 classes have been made available during the game's early access. Six more classes are confirmed but will only be available when the full game drops.
For now, we’ll focus on the existing classes, ranking them based on what we believe would be the best fit (top to bottom) for newcomers looking to dive into Path of Exile 2.
- Witch: S Tier
- Mercenary: S Tier
- Warrior: A+ Tier
- Sorceress: A Tier
- Ranger: B Tier
- Monk: B Tier
Witch
If you’re starting out, Witch class is a great choice. Her abilities are designed to let you deal big damage while keeping enemies at a safe distance. Her powerful spells and summoning undead minions make her gameplay easy to pick up but super satisfying to master.
This is a big advantage for beginners since your minions act as the frontline and can soak up hits while you stay safe and focus on positioning or casting support spells. Many of the Witch’s abilities are also buff minions, like auras or curses that make enemies weaker or your undead stronger.
Mercenary
The Mercenary is a brand-new class in Path of Exile 2 that specializes in ranged combat thanks to its unique crossbow weapon. This is unlike traditional crossbows, which follow a drawback mechanism; instead, it has an instant-fire mechanism that gives you an AR vibe.
Most importantly, their crossbows can utilize a variety of ammo types, each with distinct effects. For example, some ammo freezes enemies in place, while other ammo, like explosive bolts, can clear crowds with area-of-effect blasts.
Warrior
The Warrior's aggression and ability to take on enemies up front make it extra fun. They specialize in strength, so you’ll be up close with enemies.
The Warrior’s high durability is a game-changer—thanks to heavy armor and a huge health pool that allows them to tank hits that would obliterate other classes. Abilities like Cleave or Ground Slam can hit multiple enemies simultaneously, making them great for clearing crowds and controlling the field.
Sorceress
The real beauty of the Sorceress is her versatility. Depending on how you want to approach every fight, you can specialize in different elemental damage types—overwhelming firepower, shocking enemies with chain lightning, or freezing foes to slow down their movements.
Each element has its strengths, and as a Sorceress, you can mix and match to create your ideal play style. Also, her spells can hit multiple enemies at once and deal damage over time.
Ranger
Like the Mercenary class, the Ranger also has a bow to wield as a fighting weapon. If you enjoy the precision and strategy of ranged attacks, then the Ranger offers some of the most satisfying bow skills of any class in the game.
But it's not all about offense. She is incredibly mobile; dodge and stay out of danger. You can classify her as one of the most evasive classes in the game. However, while the Ranger's bows are powerful, she relies on positioning and timing. She is vulnerable if caught in close combat because she doesn't have heavy armor or a large health pool.
Monk
Last on our list is Monk class, not because he is underpotential but because he is a bit complex to master. He possesses a versatile skillset, combining martial arts techniques with elemental attacks.
Among the most exciting abilities offered by his arsenal are windblast, ice strike, and temperate bell. These skills bring a unique mix of control, damage, and utility to the Monk's playstyle.
