Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to catch the Golden Trout and where to find it

Animal Crossing New Horizons is finally here, and players have now been able to enjoy a week of island living in the Switch exclusive.

If you're looking for the game's most elusive fish (alongside sharks!) then you'll be after the Golden Trout. No, not our Community Manager Chris, but the game's shiny water-dweller.

Here's how to catch it, and what it does.

Keep up to date with everything Animal Crossing by watching below!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How to catch the Golden Trout

The Golden Trout is only ever found on the highest part of your island, so you'll need to have built a ladder to traverse the cliffs before you can do anything.

You'll also need Manila Clams from the beach which will let you craft fish bait to be able to add to the water atop the peak.

There's no guarantee when it'll appear, though, so you might have to make multiple to maximise your chances of catching a shiny-scaled friend.

That means you might need to spend some time, but it'll be worth it.

It's worth 15,000 bells, so if you end up with extra after you've donated to the museum, it'll help fund your island adventures.

Finally, it's worth noting that the Golden Trout is only around between the hours of 4 pm and 9 am in March, April, May, September, October and November.

Happy fishing!
