The summer solstice or estival solstice, also known as midsummer, occurs when one of the Earth's poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun.
Now items have started to appear in the Nook Shop!

New items have arrived in the shop related to the Summer-Solstice event including the 'Summer-solstice crown'.
This item will be available until the 6th July 2020.

Summer Solstice Festival
Data miner @FireMonkey__ found in a deep dive that there is an event called "Summer Solstice Festival". The description that accompanies it reads the following:
"This European festival celebrates the arrival of summer. It's said that folks wear flowers crowns and dance for good health and new love in the coming year. Maybe your crush will notice you in your sunflower crown!"
During this event, the town will be sunny all day.

When Is Summer Solstice In Animal Crossing New Horizons?
It's unknown when the event will take place, in past games 'Summer Solstice' took place from the 20th-21st June.
In the real world, it is set to take place on the 20th June 2020.
This event is available in all versions of the game.

The mascot for this event in the past was Isabelle.
Players would need to talk to her from 6am-12am to receive Ladder Shades.
