The Lord of the Rings is making a triumphant return to entertainment. Along with the upcoming TV show, an anime movie is also in production.
Titled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed a 2024 release for the forthcoming production (via The Hollywood Reporter). Along with the announcement, we also receive our first look at the ambitious project.
The Lord of the Rings Anime Movie Gets a Release Date and First Concept Art
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will officially release on April 12, 2024. Along with the launch date, Weta Workshop has also given us our first concept art from the forthcoming production.
This film delves into the fortress that is Helm’s Deep, one of the pivotal locations that appeared in The Twin Towers:
It is set hundreds of years before filmmaker Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which included a lengthy battle sequence taking place at the fortress. The anime film will also dive into the blood-soaked era of the mighty king of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand.
The project is a joint venture between Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema. The stand-alone film will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama, of Blade Runner: Black Lotus (another anime project). The executive producer of Peter Jackson’s projects, Philippa Boyens, is also attached to the movie.
The Lord of the Rings is hot right now, as we finally got our first preview for Amazon’s big-budget series, The Rings of Power. A new videogame in Gollum is also coming, which allows you to play as the precious former Stoor Hobbit.
We could see even more Middle Earth projects in the future, as the rights to Tolkien’s projects are being re-auctioned and could sell for an extortionate $2 billion.
