Apex Legends Octane abilities
As a speed junkie, Octane gets access to some great abilities to help him achieve as much speed as possible in the easiest ways.
Stim
- Cooldown: 1s; Duration: 6s.
Much like Titanfall’s Stim, Octane’s Stim increases movement speed and removes all slowing effects upon activation. While having a cooldown of just one second seems cool, the catch here is that using Stim deals 20 damage to the user. But the good news is that you can’t die from it, as you’ll always remain at 1 HP.
Swift Mend
Octane’s passive ability works perfectly with his tactical. Basically, after avoiding damage for six seconds, Octane will regenerate one health every second.
Launch Pad
- Cooldown: 1min 30 secs
Octane deploys a jump pad that launches any player who steps on it in the direction they are moving. The jump pad has 200 HP and only four of them can be deployed. You can also double-jump mid-air. Here are some nuances about movement while using the jump pad:
- If you sprint, walk, crouch, or crawl onto the jump pad, you will be launched at a high arc.
- If you slide onto the jump pad, you will be launched at a lower arc but the distance you can cover is increased.
- If you use a melee attack and use its momentum to get onto the jump pad, you will be launched straight up, allowing you to bounce indefinitely.
Legend upgrades
Legend upgrades are legend-specific perks that are unlocked as the evo shield is upgraded. You can only pick one from each level.
- Level 2 (Blue evo shield):
Thick Skin - Take 25% less damage from Stim.
OR
Wreckless - Take 25% less explosive damage.
- Level 3 (Purple evo shield):
Mad Hops - +1 Ult charge (extra Launch Pad)
OR
Aerial Agility - Change direction with Launch Pad double jump.
Apex Legends Octane tips and tricks
Here are some tips to help you win more gunfights as Octane:
- Use Stims moderately and make breaks, so your health can regenerate.
- While it may be tempting to just dash through an open field with Stims, it’s not a great idea as you have less health and are more noticeable than other legends. Use cover to your advantage.
- Use the Launch Pad to take high ground, push, or retreat. If you need to get to the high ground quickly, push a team on high ground, or retreat to safety if things go south, The Launch Pad is at your service. Just make sure you always have it charged before entering a gunfight.
- Use movement mechanics like slide hopping, wall jumping, and A/D strafing while Stimmed up. This will just make all of them more effective, as you have 30% extra speed.
- Don’t bother holstering your weapon to run quicker while using Stim. Octane can run faster with a gun out while Stimmed than any other legend with a holstered gun.
- Place Launch Pads in doorways to make a decent barrier.
- Use the Launch Pad to evacuate downed teammates.
- The Launch Pad can launch not only people but also projectiles and abilities.
Best Apex Legends Octane team compositions
Here are some team compositions with Octane to bring out his full potential:
- Octane, Conduit, Ballistic: Conduit will negate Octane’s low health by using her tactical ability to charge his shield. Ballistic will provide infinite fast reloads and increase armed movement speed, which will speed Octane up even more.
- Octane, Mad Maggie, Ballistic: This is the ultimate speedy team composition. Mad Maggie’s ultimate will deploy orbs that increase speed, while everyone has increased armed speed from Ballistic’s ultimate. Combined with Octane’s Stim, this wreaks absolute chaos.
- Octane, Ash, Pathfinder: While being a somewhat off-meta composition, this is a fun one. Ash’s tactical will catch fleeing enemies, while Octane and Pathfinder chase them with their speed-oriented tacticals. This makes a great aggressive team composition as you can also reach far-away gunfights super quickly using their ultimate abilities.
