Marvel Rivals may be in the spotlight this month, but a lot of people are getting excited over the Avatar: The Last Airbender collab that was just launched on Overwatch 2.
Just in, Blizzard has shown a gameplay video of the new skins, and there are many more Easter eggs for fans of ATLA to spot.
Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender
In the latest trailer for the Avatar: The Last Airbender event, it’s revealed that there are some great Easter Eggs and voice lines that ATLA fans will recognize. Check this out:
A lot of the voice lines used in the trailer are actually from the original series like Zenyatta/Aang saying,
“It’s easy to do nothing. It’s hard to forgive,” as well as Venture Toph with, “Yeah, lets’s break some rules!”.
They even brought in some meme lines like Genji/Zuko saying, “That’s rough, buddy.” For context, this was the line that Zuko came up with when Sokka was opening up about how his girlfriend turned into the moon (literally), and Zuko had nothing else to say but, “That’s rough, buddy.”
The trailer also gives a look at some ATLA-inspired highlight intros like Zenyatta/Aang on an air scooter, and Venture actually Earthbending. With so many fans wondering where the Venture cosmetics are, it’s great that the ATLA event is finally giving them some love.
Free Mei/Katara Skin
All the skins are available in the shop in an Avatar: The Last Airbender bundle, but there are some things that fans can earn for free during the event. For one, the Mei/Katara skin is free, and it consists of completing multiple challenges within the game.
Besides the free Mei Skin, there are also other Avatar-based cosmetics that fans can earn like charms and stickers. There are also voice lines for certain characters like Venture/Toph’s, “Let’s break some rules!”
Admittedly, the Mei/Katara skin is the one with the least change for the character model. Mei is already wearing a blue parka by default, and the only real distinction with the appearance is Katara’s ‘hair loopies’.
Not Going Down without a Fight
The release of Marvel Rivals has seen the game touted as the “Overwatch killer” by several fans online, but Blizzard is still trudging along with their hero shooter. After all, Blizzard has been at this game for much longer, and even then Rivals is getting complaints about problems that plagued early Overwatch like no role queue and heroes being unbalanced.
Maybe fans have to see how Marvel Rivals will hold up in the next few months. Though they do have a lot of the more memorable characters, Overwatch’s recent collab is admittedly something that has gotten fans back to the arena—even if it’s only for the winter season.
Fingers crossed they do a Legend of Korra collab next, or maybe something with the upcoming sequel series.
The Overwatch x Avatar: The Last Airbender event is live now, and it will be available up until Dec. 30.
