An unofficial Spider-Man 2 port has been released, built from stolen code via the recent massive Insomniac Games hack. As it turns out, the new “fan-made” PC version of Insomniac’s game is pretty damn atrocious.
In our review of Spider-Man 2 on PS5, we praised the game for its brilliant gameplay, stunning visuals and mind-blowing performance on console. The new PC version of the game has pretty much none of that.
The new Spider-Man 2 PC port is pretty atrocious. An unoptimised mess, the new port manages to even have a file size five times that of the original at 256GB. That’s even more than Modern Warfare 2, 3 and Warzone. Yikes.
The PC “port” suffers from shader issues, texture bugs and issues that require you to restore around “100GB of data” to try and play again. It’s better — and legal — to wait until the actual PC release.
Following the release of the awful PC port, developers using the stolen Insomniac assets have started to leave their Discord server. As posted by Twitter user PC_Focus, the hackers have deleted the server and banned numerous accounts.
At the time of writing, there are still people working on the unofficial Spider-Man 2 PC port. However, with Sony actively looking to eradicate the leaks from the internet, multiple people have quit over fears of legal action from the console company.
It’s also not known if the PC version of the game hides any unsavoury files. With the game package coming in at over 250GB, the game files could hide crypto miners, trojans and all manner of nefarious tools.
Insomnaic’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man Remastered eventually received official PC ports. Ported by Nixxes, the PC ports not only had brilliant performance, but also introduced additional graphical features that weren’t available on any PlayStation console.
While an official Spider-Man 2 PC port hasn’t been announced, a port of the game will be releasing eventually. Additionally, it’ll be a much more pleasant experience than playing whatever the hell this 256GB monstrosity is.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
