A high merchant attitude will lower the prices of items you buy while increasing the prices of items you sell. This is your goal to fully maximize merchant attitudes and the money you have in-game.

How to get better prices in Baldur's Gate 3

Mainly, to get better prices, you must increase the merchant attitude of your vendors. This is done by donating gold pieces or items worth gold to a maximum of 100 points of a vendor's attitude. At this point level, the price of items you can purchase will drop dramatically by 25 percent and the price of items you sell increase by 30 percent.

When you encounter and interact with a vendor, you can see the merchant attitude bar below their form. This bar can increase which will result in lower prices but if you don't have a good relationship with your merchants, this can increase the prices of items you want to buy. It makes it crucial to have a high Charisma stat so you can maintain a good relationship with your merchants.

Take note though that this bonus percentage may change depending on the vendor. It's best to make donations to vendors you regularly interact with or patronise from so you can get the best deals for items.

Why should you invest in the merchant attitude?

Besides the lowered price of items you buy or sell, you'll also be able to save a huge amount of gold with every transaction. With the high Charisma stat, you can save half of your money while buying items and double your income when selling them. So, take every opportunity to donate gold pieces to your merchants whenever you encounter them in the game.

Remember though that if you get caught stealing, your merchant affinity will decrease on its own and you'd have to pay back some gold again to redeem the attitude point taken away from you. This makes you become more inclined to value your relationships with merchants at all times. There really isn't any way to cheat this method of getting better prices. It takes some patience and saving your gold pieces for the merchant attitude investment in-game.
