Inventory management in RPGs can be a chore, but Baldur's Gate 3 simplifies the process by allowing you to trade whenever you want in seconds. Knowing how to trade in Baldur's Gate 3 is very important, as you can treat your Companions’ inventories as portable stashes.

Trading has various uses in the game, as you can give consumables or gear items to Companions whenever they need them. If a companion is dead, you can take their Scroll of Revivify and get them back into the fight instantly even if you don’t have a scroll of your own.

How to trade in Baldur's Gate 3 with companions

You can trade whenever you want in Baldur's Gate 3. Whether you are in the middle of an action or during combat, the inventory and trade options are accessible. If a Companion is downed, their items can still be accessed by other party members. To start a trade:

  • Open the Inventory menu. The default key bind on the PC is “I”
  • From the Inventory UI, right-click on any item that you want to transfer
  • Choose the “Send To” option and select the party member you want to transfer the item to
  • You can click on other characters’ inventories and send items to your character

You should ideally have a Scroll of Revivify on each of your characters, which can help you revive them. Having Potions that can heal you is also important as non-Cantrip spells do not have infinite charges. Whenever you run into a vendor that sells Potions, we recommend getting all of your characters to purchase a few potions for emergency purposes.

Utilising the Traveller Chest in your camp

There is a limit to how many items you can carry in Baldur's Gate 3, and if all of your characters’ inventories are full you can start sending unimportant items to the camp. There is a Traveller Chest in the camp that can have seemingly infinite items. So all you need to do is open the Inventory button, right-click on an item, and click on the Send to Camp option. You will be able to view your stash inside the Traveller Chest the next time you interact with it at the camp.

Do remember that if you tell any of your companions to wait for you at the camp, they will retain their inventory. Their items will not disappear if they become inactive members of your party, so remember to take any important items from them before telling them to stay in the camp.
