Let's see how to prepare spells in Baldur's Gate 3. During combat in Baldur's Gate 3, characters have a bunch of spells at their fingertips, especially if you're a Wizard. But there's a catch: you can only use a certain number of spells before you need a break to recharge.
To combat this, you need to get your spells prepared before you can use them. Prepared spells are spells that a character has learned but has not yet cast. As you level up in the game, you can switch out these ready spells for new ones you've learned. Although preparing spells is an easier task, first-timers may struggle a little bit. This guide aims to make the confusing task of spell preparation much easier.

How to prepare spells in Baldur's Gate 3?
To prepare spells, a character must be out of combat and have access to their spellbook. You can open the spellbook using your active character by pressing the ‘K’ key. Once the spellbook is opened, you will find your prepared spells highlighted in a single line (next to the book icon). You can check in the screenshot below.
Below the prepared spell list, there will be another section of spells that you have learned throughout the campaigns. These spells will be divided into levels one and two in Roman numbering.
First, click on any of the spells from the highlighted section that your character has learned. Now, you can switch them with spells you like from your level one or level two choices.
When you're done picking your new spells, make sure they're on your hotbar at the bottom of the screen. This way, you can quickly use them when you're in a fight. Before you start the next fight, remember to go through all the spells you know.
Prepared spells are a powerful tool that can give characters a lot of flexibility in combat. By carefully choosing their prepared spells, characters can tailor their abilities to the specific challenges they face.
If you want to trade your ready spells for something else you like, you can do this again to set up your favourite choices. As you get stronger, you'll also learn more magical abilities, giving you more choices for your collection of spells.
