Newcomers to the RPG series will definitely need to know what to sell in Baldur's Gate 3. As you traverse the world with your party, you will undoubtedly come across hundreds and hundreds of items. Whether these items come from defeating enemies, cracking open random objects, opening chests, or speaking to vendors, your inventory will usually be quite full. While some of the items are crucial to your survival in Baldur's Gate 3, others might not be as important.

Players have naturally asked the question of whether it's smart to sell these items so they can make a little extra gold. Though acquiring gold is not the main objective in Baldur's Gate 3, it's certainly useful to have more of it. Below, we will go into what you should feel comfortable selling and what is not recommended to sell.

Which items are best to sell in Baldur's Gate 3?

First and foremost, it's always wise to examine an item in your inventory before you choose to sell it. If an item is marked by words such as "Story," "Unique," or "Artifact," then you absolutely do not want to sell that item. The Story items are unsurprisingly imperative to story missions in Baldur's Gate 3, and without some of them, you cannot proceed during certain quests.

Baldur's Gate 3 features a robust item system and economy.

As for the Unique and Artifact items, these are usually exceedingly rare and you should try to keep them as long as possible. You can see if an item is marked with one of these classifications by hovering over it in your inventory.

In addition to those items, you also don't want to sell consumables. This includes healing items such as food or potions, scrolls, like the Revivify Scroll, grenades, bombs, arrows, and more. Obviously, if you find yourself not using bombs or arrows with any character, then they are likely okay to sell. You just don't want to regret the decision down the line if you suddenly have a need for them.

As for any other items you shouldn't sell, this will come down to your personal character and party management. Items that you find yourself using a lot in combat will likely need to stay in your inventory so you can continue using them. If you find yourself not using certain items, then they're usually safe to sell so you can pocket a little gold.

Pick and choose what to keep and what to get rid of

Piggybacking off of that, you can also feel free to sell any weapons or gear that aren't pertinent to your party. Some of the gear you pick up can go for a pretty penny at certain vendors, so hang onto anything that you think could fetch a decent price. Of course, if you're in the habit of class-swapping, then you might want to keep some gear you might need down the road.

Finally, any junk that you randomly pick up is always better off in a vendor's hands. These items usually don't go for a lot of gold, but a little extra cash is better than nothing. Baldur's Gate 3 does not explicitly mark certain items as junk, though, so once again you should examine items before deciding to sell them.

In the end, it's up to you to decide what to sell in Baldur's Gate 3, as cliché as it sounds. Junk items such as rope (quite surprisingly in a D&D game) are always safe to sell and certain marked items should always be kept in your inventory. Everything in between those categories is left up to your personal discretion, though.
