Pokémon Legends: Arceus arrives on January 28, 2022. As it stands, the game sees Pokémon Trainers adventuring around the ancient region of Hisui, destined to eventually become Sinnoh, filling out their Pokédex with a grand range of Pokémon.
Right now, we know that we can expect to see new, rideable Pokémon, as well as various Hisuian forms of Pokémon we already know and love. When it comes to battling, however, there are also Alpha and Noble Pokémon to be concerned about.
Noble Pokémon are enraged, frenzied by something unknown, but they can be calmed using the likes of balms. Balms are craftable items that can be used to calm such angry Pokémon. Here's everything you need to know about balms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
All Balms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Balms are throwable items kept in a pouch, and will consist of a Pokémon's favourite foods and flavours. The balms are as follows:
- Forest Balm - Calms Kleavor.
- Marsh Balm - Calms Lilligant.
- Mountain Balm - Calms Electrode.
- Snow Balm - Calms Avalugg.
- Mysterious Balm - For battling Arceus.
- Space Balm - Calms Palkia.
- Time Balm - Calms Dialga.
- Volcano Balm - Calms Arcanine.
When it comes to balms, they're fortunately pre-crafted and given to you before any battle.
How to Use Balms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Balms can be used to calm frenzied, Noble Pokémon before going into a traditional battle with them. At the very beginning of a battle with a Noble Pokémon, they will be covered by a yellow shield, and a yellow bar will appear at the top of your screen indicating the health of this shield.
To calm them down, and thus, reduce the yellow shield, so you can attempt to catch them, you must throw your balms at the enraged Pokémon. This will only work if the balms are of the flavour that the Pokémon likes. For example, we know that Kleavor likes Forest Balm, so this is what needs to be thrown at Kleavor to quell them.
While throwing balms at the Pokémon, you can use ZL on your Nintendo Switch to focus your aim if you find that you're missing shots. More importantly, however, you will need to use Y to dodge the Noble Pokémon's attacks in-between throwing balms. Once the shield has been reduced and the Pokémon is calmed, you will then engage in a traditional battle with the Pokémon. Be wary, though, these aren't easy battles!
That's all we know about balms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus for now, but we'll be sure to update this space when we know more.
