Battlefield 2042 is out right now, and hype has been building on the subject of whether the game will have a battle royale mode. Of course, we don't know 100% what's planned post-release, but it looks like the Battlefield 2042 team is going in a different direction with the latest release.
To be fair though, Battlefield V added Firestorm post-launch, so a lot of fans will be keen to see Battlefield 2042 go in the same direction at some point during the game's life span.

Is Battlefield 2042 A Battle Royale?
Despite the popularity of the Battle Royale genre, Battlefield 2042 will not have Battle Royale at launch.
Since Battlefield 2042 is a live-service game, there’s always a chance that they add a Battle Royale mode post-launch, especially since it’s a question that keeps getting asked by fans of the series.
The mode in Battlefield 2042 instead is known as Hazard Zone and comes to the game on the release date. It's an extraction-based mode, where teams of four battle other squads, harsh weather conditions, and AI defenders to grab data drives and escape the map in one piece. We're actually really excited about it - it's a big change from the standard BR fare we all know from the last several years of game releases.
We'll have to wait and see how successful Hazard Zone is, but the regular All-Out Warfare modes have 128 players per map, allowing us to experience widespread chaos on a similar scale of Battle Royales, just with more of a teamplay element and extra action going on.
Battlefield Portal does offer players the opportunity to create their own game modes though, and some enterprising players were able to create their very own Battle Royale mode, which is pretty cool.
Battlefield 2042 is out now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. For more on Battlefield 2042, check out what platforms have Cross-Play and what you need to know about Battlefield 2042's Specialists.
