In a game as relentlessly action-packed as Bayonetta 3, you'll often find yourself needing a quick break. As such, knowing the Bayonetta 3 save method is crucial to ensure you don't lose any progress. Fortunately, it's a fairly easy mechanic to use, even if you can't always save whenever you like.
In this Bayonetta 3 guide, we'll go over everything you need to know about saving. That includes how to save, as well as whether you need to manually save throughout your adventure, or if autosaving does it all for you. The latter mechanic is increasingly common in gaming, so does Bayonetta 3 follow the trend?

How do I save in Bayonetta 3?
Fortunately, you'll rarely need to worry about saving in Bayonetta 3. That's because Bayonetta 3 has an autosave feature.
This works in the background as you continue through the game. At fixed points while you progress, often after intense combat sections, the game will automatically back up your data. If you then die, you'll go back from this recent checkpoint. The same scenario applies if you quit the game and load back in later!

This isn't much of a surprise, with autosave now a de facto mechanic in new triple-A games. However, in our experience with Bayonetta 3, it can be a little spotty. The game doesn't let you know when autosaves are happening, and sometimes you'll go long periods of gameplay without an autosave.
Therefore, we also advise manually saving frequently, just to make sure you don't lose your progress.
Can you manually save in Bayonetta 3?
Yes, there is also a manual save option in Bayonetta 3 in case you want to see the save occurring for yourself.
The manual save method in Bayonetta 3 is super easy. You can't do it all the time, but after missions, you'll be taken to the Chapter Menu. On this pinboard style menu, you can press the '+' button to pull up a more detailed set of options. One of those is a save option, which saves the progress you've made between chapters. Since this menu is only accessible outside of gameplay, it doesn't let you save mid-chapter.
This isn't the only option though. You can head to Rodin's Shop, named The Gates of Hell, between levels and at certain points mid-chapter. Look out for a glowing red orb in the environment, and you can interact with it to enter the shop. When there, choose the Witch's Respite option. This will let you save right then and there.
The shop is a sort of hub area that will appear between missions, and before some bigger battles against bosses. Since it appears infrequently and not in every level, it isn't the most reliable method, however.
