Dying Light 2 is an action role-playing game from Techland and is the sequel to 2015's Dying Light. In this game, you play as a Pilgrim called Aiden. You have your own agenda for entering The City (one of the last human settlements in the world), but you inevitably get tangled up in the problems there too.
As you explore Villedor, you'll meet a lot of different people and you'll need to make decisions that can alter how you experience the game. One of the less obvious, but still important, decisions that you get to make is the armour that you wear. Now, it's not shiny silver chainmail, but the armour in the game is styled like normal clothing. The further you get in the game, the more armour you will find.
In this guide, we're going to explain the armour classes and how to get armour. Also, we show you which armour we think is the best.
Best Gear
The best armour pieces that you can get in the game are Artifact Pieces. They're harder to find, but once you do find them they can be hugely beneficial. Artifact pieces are the top tier of armour in the game. They often provide huge benefits in terms of statistics and they often have few or no negatives.
The best armour class is a tricky one to decide as it's down to how you want to tailor Aiden. However, we recommend focusing mainly on the Medic class on your first playthrough. This class tends to have the most balanced statistic boosts across multiple areas. For example, the Paramedic Vest Artifact Chestpiece offers the following:
- +6.1% Healing Effectiveness
- +5.3% Damage Resistance (during the day)
- +4.4% Damage Resistance (at night)
- +4.1% Survivor Sense Duration
- +3.1% Damage (with Parkour attacks)
- +3.6% Health Regeneration Speed
The boost that you get across several different areas is why we recommend focusing on the Medic class for your first playthrough. However, you can choose different gear pieces from different classes if you want to. If you do this, we still recommend using Artifact Pieces as they will always be the most beneficial.
Armour Classes
Medic
The Medic class focuses on being efficient healers and they focus on Parkour Combat. This is a great class for beginners as it enhances your chances of survival by boosting your healing abilities and combat abilities.
Tank
Tanks specialise in using 2H weapons (they are slower but can deal a lot of damage at once) and Tanks can take a lot of damage. These are a great class for those of you who like diving head-first into the chaos of you vs ten different enemies. Also, this class is a good one to mix in with the Medic class as they compliment each other.
Brawler
The Brawler class specialises in dealing damage with 1H weapons (the ones you'll find most often in Villedor). Aside from that, this class doesn't offer many benefits when you compare it to the other three. Having at least one piece of Brawler armour equipped is beneficial as it can boost your damage, even if it's only slightly.
Ranger
The Ranger class focuses on using Ranged Weapons (such as Bows) and stealth. This means that if you like engaging in battles from a distance and you prefer sneaking past enemies, this is the class for you. However, if you prefer using melee weapons and getting caught in the thick of it during a fight, you may want to focus on the other three classes.
How to Get Armour
The easiest way to get armour is to take your time to explore buildings and small areas of the map. Often, armour pieces can be found within large chests or locked crates. Early in the game, some of the best pieces can only be found inside locked GRE Crates. However, the further you get into the story, the more likely it is that you will pick up high-tier armour without breaking into a box.

How to Change Your Armour
To change your armour, enter your inventory menu. On the righthand side of your screen, you should have a "gear" section. Here, you'll have six individual slots with different clothing items in them. They will be:
- Headwear
- Gloves
- Chestpiece
- Bracers
- Joggers
- Sneakers
Underneath this menu, you will be able to see the current gear rating of the items you have equipped. The higher the gear rating is, the better your armour is.
Having the right armour equipped is one of the several things you need to think about in Dying Light 2. In a world where you have infected zombies trying to eat you and the last of humanity are arguing, you'll need to watch your back constantly. This is where having a good weapon comes in. Take a look at our best weapons list to learn more about them and where to get them. We also have a guide that explains the combat and parkour skill trees, these are important things you need to consider while choosing your armour.
