Bully 2 - the successor to Rockstar’s hit game Canis Canem Edit or Bully could very well be in the works according to a number of leaks and rumours.
For those who never got to play Canis Canem Edit (Bully), the game follows a student named Jimmy Hopkins, an involuntary enrolled transfer student, in his mission to become respected among the various groups that make up Bullworth Academy from Nerds to Jocks to Greasers. At the same time, you have to attend classes and improve your performance otherwise you’ll be in trouble with your teachers and miss out on some very fun rewards.
The game itself sold over 1.5 million copies and received favourable reviews. It’s release was met with a lot of controversy predominantly by people who panicked over the games title and knew very little of the games content. Though given the headlining grabbing controversies Rockstar has come to be known for, it couldn’t come as a huge surprise.
Rockstar work in very long development cycles, we had gone 8 years before we saw a sequel to Red Dead Redemption and for Bully, it’s been over 13 years since the original game came out on PlayStation 2. With such a long time in between titles, it would be wise to expect a sequel will inevitably be released. Especially one as popular as Bully.
Bully 2 was first mentioned in an interview with Shawn Lee, the games composer, where he told The Gaming Liberty that he was lined up to work on it. “Yes. It looks like I will be doing the soundtrack for Bully 2 in the not so distant future.” Obviously this led to fans rabidly asking for more information and Rockstar sent out their co-founder Dan Houser to stoke the fire. “We knew that we didn't want to start doing the Bully sequel instantly at that second with those guys - even though it is a property that, like Max (Payne), we adore and might come back to in the future. There was just no impetus to do that."
In 2017, eight years since that interview came out, someone leaked concept art using a very similar art style to the original game. Such concepts include a dorky looking fella based on Patton Oswald, a survivalist based on Jack Torrence from the Shining, Goths and a creepy postman. It also shows us drawings of the suburbs which could hint at a change in location. Another rumour on Reddit listed notes of what the new game might entail however of course, take it all with a hint of salt. You can have a full read here.
We’ll update as we hear more.
