After the incredible success of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor earlier this year, Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games are doubling down on the video game franchise. Announced at the Xbox Games Showcase over the summer, Ubisoft revealed Star Wars Outlaws, the first-ever open-world Star Wars game to hit the market.
The game was unveiled with shiny cinematic and gameplay trailers that showcased a main protagonist not named Cal Kestis.
Instead of the incumbent hero of the two most recent high profile Star Wars video games, Cal is being replaced by a new protagonist by the name of Kay Vess. Kay is an outlaw (what else?) that is seeking to start a new life along with some of her companions. Naturally, though, she is being chased by the Galactic Empire as she attempts to do so.
While the game certainly sounds intriguing enough, many Star Wars fans are wondering if Cal will be making a return in Outlaws.

Is Cal Kestis returning in Star Wars Outlaws?
At the time of writing, it's officially unknown whether Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games plan to insert Cal into the story of Star Wars Outlaws or not. While the past two Star Wars games, Fallen Order and Survivor, have seen their fair share of cameos from Star Wars characters, Cal's future is currently unclear.
However, some fans simply want to know if it's even possible for Cal to be in Outlaws timeline-wise. Star Wars Outlaws is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. This places the game around the year 3-4 ABY in the Star Wars universe.
Comparatively, we last see Cal in the year 9 BBY, which is when Survivor is set. This is roughly the same time as the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show takes place. In terms of the movies, Survivor and Obi-Wan's show is set directly in between the events of the Star Wars prequels and sequels.
So, assuming Cal has not suffered a tragic fate between the events of Survivor and the events of Return of the Jedi, it's likely that he would still be alive when Star Wars Outlaws takes place. After all, Obi-Wan is still alive during the events of A New Hope and Cal is much younger than he was in the year 9 BBY.
Of course, Cal being alive doesn't mean that he would be a shoo-in to make an appearance in Outlaws. It's up to Ubisoft whether it wants Kay Vess to be the center of attention for the entirety of Outlaws or it doesn't mind a guest appearance from Cal.
Either way, though, it doesn't look like the hero of Fallen Order and Survivor will play a large role in the game. If Cal Kestis does appear in Outlaws, it will likely only be for a scene or two. We could be wrong, of course, so we'll simply have to wait and see.
Star Wars Outlaws does not yet have a release date but we know it will arrive sometime in 2024.
