The name of Call of Duty 2024 has reportedly leaked with just under a year until its release.
Although plenty of focus is on Modern Warfare 3 and the start of Season 1, attention is already turning to the next entry into the storied shooter franchise. 2024 is a big year for Call of Duty. 2024's release will be the first to launch under the Microsoft banner after acquiring Activision.
The only known information on Call of Duty 2024 is that it's being developed by Treyarch and based on that intel alone, the Black Ops name is potentially returning once again and this time around, Call of Duty is reportedly heading to a brand-new setting.
First reported by WindowsCentral, Call of Duty 2024 is another Black Ops title and is expected to be named Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War.
The report states Call of Duty 2024 features a heavy focus on the CIA. The agency has appeared in previous Black Ops titles with the majority of the series being set in the Cold War.
In addition to the Gulf War setting, new details surrounding pre-order bonuses have also caught the attention of fans. According to the report, Activision is contemplating the idea of giving players several weeks of early access to Black Ops Gulf War's zombies mode which is rumoured to return to a round-based structure.
Pre-ordering for early access isn't anything new in Call of Duty. Recent releases have seen players earn a week of campaign early access if they choose to pre-order the more expensive editions of the game.
Expectations for Call of Duty 2024 are already high. The game will be the first in the history of the franchise to have a four-year development cycle rather than three, giving plenty of time for Treyarch to fine-tune its single-player and multiplayer offering before it drops in the late Autumn of next year.
