Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 eSports Reveal Recap

Live from Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Treyarch Studios gave the world a sneak peak at what’s to come this November for eSports fans, as they hosted a reveal for Black Ops 3, featuring 8 of the best Call of Duty players in the world.

If you missed it, don’t worry, we have you covered. Here’s a full recap of everything we learned this event.

Call of Duty eSports is headed to PlayStation 4

It’s official. With rumours flying around since Sony announced their new partnership with Activision and Call of Duty, we finally have confirmation that Call of Duty eSports is headed to PlayStation. Vonderhaar waited to the end of the presentation, signing off with the news that PlayStation was “the new home of Call of Duty eSports”. Exciting!

CoDCaster

The always popular CoDCaster returns for another year, bringing back everything that we have grown accustomed too, along with a few new improvements, including a new widget which gives an in-depth look at what each player is running.

League Play is back

That’s right, everyone’s favourite ranked playlist is back with a facelift. Now known as Arena, the new ranked playlist will judge your skills based on wins alone. Arena features 20 ranks for you to progress through, with Master Division at the top for the most elite players.

Players will be promoted by stringing together match wins, however, losing two games in a row will see you sliding back down the ranks.

Uplink returns

Start practising your dunking, as Uplink is back for another year. The popular game mode debuted in Advanced Warfare, and will be back in Black Ops 3.

While the game plays slower with the removal of exo-suits, it still looks like a lot of fun, and with specialist abilities running wild, teams will need to get to the drawing board and come up with some new strategies.

Pick/Ban System

For the first time ever, Treyarch introduces a Pick/Ban System directly into Black Ops 3. Before any game starts, both teams will be able to protect or ban any item from use within the game.

This includes weapons, perks, tacticals, lethals and specialist abilities. This brings a whole new level of tactical awareness to Call of Duty eSports, and will require players to be more versatile than ever.

Live Event Viewer

Finally, Treyarch have introduced a Live Event Viewer directly into Black Ops 3. This means that any major eSports event taking place will be available to view within the game itself, a huge step in introducing casual players into the competitive scene.

So, that’s all the major talking points from the Black Ops 3 eSports reveal at Gamescom. What do you think of the new additions? Let us know in the comments below.
