Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Release Date
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on Friday, October 25, 2024, on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4. BO6 will also be included in Game Pass for both PC and Xbox subscribers.
With Call of Duty typically being released in late October to mid-November, it’s not surprising to see Black Ops 6 in our hands by October 25. The good news is that Treyarch, the developer behind BO6, has been working on this entry for nearly four years, right after the release of Black Ops Cold War.
Seeing the return of round-based Zombies, a blockbuster campaign mode and fleshed-out multiplayer, new HUD features, new movement systems, and, of course, new gear, Black Ops 6 is shaping up very well.
Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about Call of Duty Black Ops 6, including an overview of the campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes, and all the big changes and new additions.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Campaign
The Black Ops 6 campaign takes place in the 1990s and builds on historical events with a fictional, globetrotting spy thriller story in which the US government has been infiltrated, forcing Frank Woods and the Black Ops team to go rogue. This campaign takes place after the events of Black Ops Cold War.
According to Jon Zuk, associate creative director at Raven Software, co-developer on the BO6 campaign, the goal is to provide “more variety, more dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay, and more options to finish each mission.” Building on the success seen in Black Ops 2 onwards with a slightly more branching narrative, Black Ops 6 looks to offer a more unique narrative that you have more control over. This involves being able to use stealth, dialogue, and more to change your approach to each mission and add more replayability.
As for the story itself, it’s a spy thriller based on the events of the 1990s, such as the Gulf War and the fall of the Soviet Union. While it is set after the events of Black Ops Cold War, and sees the return of characters like Adler, it’s directly tied to the 1986 flashbacks seen in Black Ops 2.
As Natalie Phorski, lead narrative producer at Raven Software, explains we get to see a “different side of Woods following his traumatic injury at the hands of Raul Menendez.” Now in the CIA, Woods acts as our eyes and ears. Troy Marshall, on the other hand, is a new character and the team leader in the field. Woods and Marshall are collaborating with CIA handler Jane Harrow, another new face in the BO6 campaign.
When an operation goes wrong, Woods and Marshall are forced to go rogue without any of the resources they’re accustomed to. Putting together a new team with Felix Neumann and Sevati Dumas, alongside the return of Russel Adler, you’ll have to work together to solve the mystery.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Multiplayer
By far the biggest news is that Black Ops 6 multiplayer features a new movement system, 16 maps at launch, and a return to the traditional Prestige system.
Known as the Omni-movement system, you will now be able to run, dive, and crawl much more fluidly in any direction. If you’ve played Max Payne, then you’ll feel right at home. While this new movement system is available in all modes, its impact will be most felt in the multiplayer portion of Black Ops 6.
BO6 multiplayer will also feature 16 all-new maps at launch - 12 Core maps (6v6) and four Strike maps (6v6 or 2v2). This is a strong selection to debut with and is sure to only grow thanks to the rigorous post-launch support that recent Call of Duty titles have seen. The fact that these maps are all brand-new to Black Ops 6 will no doubt be music to the ears of many after Modern Warfare 3 debuted with a suite of remastered maps, which fell rather flat.
The traditional Prestige system is also making a return in Black Ops 6. Reach max level to be given the option to Prestige and start fresh with locked gear. There are ten Prestige ranks, each with rewards. Once you’ve reached Prestige 10, you will then gain access to Prestige Master, which has 1,000 levels and classified rewards. Even better, this is all available on the Black Ops 6 release date. Unlike recent Call of Duty games, you will not have to wait for post-launch updates to expand on the Prestige system.
Black Ops 6 also sees additional HUD customization. That’s right, you will be able to move various UI elements and use different HUD layouts to customize your experience, including centering the important information next to your crosshairs. In fact, you can even remove HUD elements to bring a part of the Hardcore mode to standard play.
Last but by no means least, the iconic Theater Mode also makes a return with Black Ops 6 multiplayer. Whether you pulled off a slick quickscope or a sly objective capture, you’ll be able to relive it all in Theater Mode.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies
Black Ops 6 Zombies sees a return to the traditional round-based experience and continues the Dark Aether storyline with two brand-new maps at launch.
According to the developer, BO6 Zombies will include “a curated mix of fan-favorite features and new elements to discover,” teasing how the cooperative horde mode will be improved with Black Ops 6. This includes the new movement system that will make BO6 Zombies even more dynamic and fast-paced.
Well, that’s all there is to know about BO6 ahead of the Black Ops 6 release date. We will update this guide as and when more information is revealed. In the meantime, hop into Modern Warfare 3 and start putting together the best MW3 BAL-27 loadout in multiplayer.
