Black Ops Cold War Season One Details: Rewards, Progression, Warzone Integration and More

In a new blog post, Activision clarified some of its plans for the future of Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War, and Warzone, the free-to-play Call of Duty battle royale.

Obviously, Warzone isn’t going anywhere.

With another annual Call of Duty release on the horizon, we’ve known for some time that the future of Warzone and Black Ops would be an intermingling of content and modes from the Modern Warfare era and, well, COD’s future.

Modern Warfare will stay relevant

“The Battle Pass system continues, with Season One coming loaded with brand-new content for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone,” Activision writes.

“Progress through the Battle Pass system by playing any of the three games. Battle Pass content you unlock is shown in-game, no matter which game you’re playing.”

This is notable because Modern Warfare’s multiplayer — even beyond the Warzone components — will remain relevant in the coming year. For dedicated Call of Duty players, that’s a fair amount of added value for the games as well as any battle pass purchases that maintain this feature.

Warzone content in the Cold War era

“Post-launch seasonal content” will be shared across both Cold War and Warzone, the publisher says. This includes the in-game Call of Duty store, so existing Warzone content will carry over into the future; there are “no plans to remove” this stuff down the road.

For the time being, content earned with Modern Warfare battle passes will be remain usable in Warzone. “At least through the initial Black Ops Cold War seasons of content,” says Activision.

In other words, maybe don’t get too attached to your Modern Warfare blueprints (in Warzone). But you can at least enjoy them through the coming year.

“For Season One, expect a multitude of fresh and exciting Battle Pass items you can access both in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone,” the blog post adds. “Battle Pass content you unlock will be visible no matter which game you’re playing.”
