Just one week on from the final Call of Duty World Championship 2019, more details have emerged surrounding the team structure for the 2020 season while both Florida and Los Angeles have secured a place in the new franchised league for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
In a recent interview with ESPN, 100 Thieves owner and former professional player Matt “Nadeshot” Haag expressed some of his concerns regarding the switch to a franchise model, stating that he is “cautiously optimistic” ahead of the new season.

It’s understandable for him to be cautious. He and his team have put a lot of resources into the 100 Thieves brand and if the thieves were to invest into the CGL (Call of Duty Global League), an entirely new brand would have to be created in order to comply with the new league. “They’ve done an incredible job from a sales perspective” he continues but questions why “wipe away” some household names in esports.
Is the cautious optimism from the 100T owner an implication that he will not be investing into the CGL ahead of its debut season? Or is he biding his time and going to see how successful the league is before taking the plunge when Activision Blizzard expand the league. Only time will tell, but for now it doesn’t look like we will see a franchise owned by 100 Thieves at the start of the 2020 season,
