Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019: Multiplayer Customisation Features A Tamagotchi

Call of Duty Modern Warfare's will follow the customisation trend it has established for itself in recent years with a Tamagotchi as an equipable cosmetic. Modern Warfare 2019's global reveal showed the full extent of the multiplayer that has been in the work by Infinity Ward for the past 3 years, at the start of August. We now know a vast majority of Modern Warfare 2019 weapons, maps, killstreaks, perks, game modes and more - we have also confirmed that a Modern Warfare beta is happening and begins on the 12th September if you pre-order.

Customisation is a big part of Call of Duty and has certainly grown, to mixed opinions, to be even bigger with each passing iteration. This latest edition could be the most interesting development yet as a Tamagotchi type of customisation has supposedly appeared in Modern Warfare 2019. For those unaware, a Tamagotchi is a handheld digital pet that was released by Bandai in 1996 and quickly became one of the biggest fads in the 90s and early 2000s.

Why Is A Tamagotchi in Modern Warfare 2019?

Infinity Ward has promised to take Call of Duty: Modern Warfare back to its purist roots with this reboot of the series that made the franchise so popular. It vowed to focus on a more grounded and relevant campaign, tactile gunplay and multiplayer mechanics inspired by real world scenarios and experiences in the modern day rather than fantasy such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Despite this, Infinity Ward have taken a creative approach to multiplayer customisation this year, particularly with the wearable wristwatches that players can have in the games multiplayer. Joel Emslie, Art Director for Infinity Ward, revealed in an interview with the Daily Star revealed one example of what these wristwatches can do.

"The wristwatches we have in the game… people have really picked up on that, and they’re curious to know more about how things are going to be developed with that." explains Emslie. "We’re taking wristwatches to weird places, too. For example, we’ve got one we call the TomaGUNchi - it’s a Tamagotchi that feeds on kills. It’s a one-off we got creative with. I said to our engineers: ‘Can you make it so that whilst we’re playing and I get kills in multiplayer, it kinda lives and grows?’"

This almost sounds like the 'kill counter' weapon customisation that was introduced into Black Ops 3 after you prestiged a weapon. We've also seen plenty of novelty attachments feature in Call of Duty such as weapon charms, that were brought into Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and have continued to feature since.
