With a new Evil Dead game due out later this month, there's one question on the minds of multiplayer fans: is Evil Dead crossplay? Being able to play with friends on different platforms is crucial for many social gamers, and as such crossplay is increasingly becoming a de facto standard in multiplayer games of this type.
In this Evil Dead guide, we'll explore whether the latest game based on Sam Raimi's horror trilogy has cross-platform multiplayer capabilities. On top of that, we'll look at how to toggle it on and off, so you know exactly how to tweak the matchmaking settings to your liking.
While we wait for the game to come out, why not dive into Dead By Daylight? We've got a look at the upcoming Chapter 24 release date, on top of the latest free Dead By Daylight codes to redeem. That'll keep you busy while you wait to play as Ash!
Does Evil Dead Support Crossplay?
The good news is that yes, Evil Dead does have crossplay functionality. As such, if all of your friends are playing on different platforms, you'll still be able to join in on the fun - provided you've got the game, of course.
Crossplay will work on all platforms that Evil Dead launches on. Those are PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch port of the game is "coming soon" as per the official website, but it's unclear whether that will also support crossplay.
The good news about crossplay was first announced on the game's official Twitter back in February 2022. Since we haven't heard anything about crossplay since, it's safe to assume that nothing has changed, and it'll still be in the game at launch.
With crossplay enabled, players will be able to dive into multiplayer matches with players on other platforms. As such, it means you'll likely always be able to find a multiplayer lobby, as matchmaking will work across all the available platforms. However, the key benefit is that you can still play alongside pals who may be on a different console to you.
How Do I Activate Evil Dead Crossplay?
However, since the new Evil Dead game isn't out yet, the specific details on how to activate crosspaly remain unclear. We imagine that you'll be able to toggle it on and off on the matchmaking menu, to choose whether to just play in lobbies with your native platform, or with players across consoles.
Once we've got our hands on Evil Dead, we'll be able to update this section with more detailed instructions on how to switch crossplay on and off. That'll ensure you can tweak your settings totally to your liking. Until then, we imagine that the default setting will be with crossplay on, to ensure early game lobbies are constantly populated.
