When Cyberpunk 2077 was released, it received plenty of attention. It wasn’t exactly the kind that studio CD Projekt RED had been hoping for though. No-one could have anticipated a Cyberpunk 2 release date would ever be possible after the first game's launch. During its development, it received three full delays in the run-up to its release. Ultimately, it had to be released in the infamous state we know today. In fact, it was so unfinished on launch, that it's even been the subject of several lawsuits.
It was a shame to see Cyberpunk 2077 in this state. It wasn’t just buggy, but oftentimes completely unplayable. Even once the game began to work, many found the story underneath to be lacklustre and predictable. With development costing over $300 million, making it one of the most expensive games ever made, it couldn’t afford to see this kind of response.
Many fans were surprised when CD Projekt Red announced Project Orion. This means that a Cyberpunk 2 may be in development. With that said, find everything there is to know about Project Orion and Cyberpunk 2 in our hub containing all the intel.
Cyberpunk 2 release date rumours
At the time of writing, there are no signs of Cyberpunk 2 releasing anytime soon. Despite the announcement of Project Orion, a release date might be a little while away.
However, there's every chance 2023 will contain further news on the game's development which is hugely exciting for Cyberpunk fans. Once a release date does appear, we'll update the guide with the latest information.
Cyberpunk 2 news
CD Projekt RED officially announced that they were making a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 in late 2022. They have named it Project Orion for the time being.
The description given by Pawel Sasko, the Quest Director of Cyberpunk 2077, says that “Orion is a codename for our next Cyberpunk game, which will take the Cyberpunk franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe.”
However, it’s unlikely that we will see this game for another few years. Cyberpunk 2 is still in its pre-production phase meaning the release date for Cyberpunk 2 will likely be well after the release of the next Witcher game. We will make sure to keep you updated with any further announcements from the studio.
What we'd love to see in Cyberpunk 2
Although there are no details on Cyberpunk 2, we're already looking forward to seeing what CD Projekt Red has in store. Here's what we'd love to see arrive in the game:
A playable game on release
The very minimum that people expect when they buy a game is to be able to actually play it. When Cyberpunk 2077 was released, it was in such an awful state that many people couldn’t even launch the game. For Cyberpunk 2 to be taken even a little bit seriously, it needs to be playable on release.
Story decisions that matter
When Cyberpunk was being promoted, one of the biggest things that was repeated over and over again was the ability to make decisions. Your decisions would affect the outcome of Night City, so you had to play carefully and really believe in your choices.
However, when people started playing it, they realised very quickly that the decisions never really mattered. In fact, at the very end of the game, you were railroaded into a few very limited options that all had a very similar outcome.
