When it comes to Souls games, those created by FromSoftware are far and away the most popular. After the huge success of Elden Ring in 2022, fans are already looking ahead to their next intense RPG release. In this guide, you will find some Dark Souls 4 news.
FromSoftware is a famous Japanese studio renowned for difficult games. Its most popular series is Dark Souls, which has three entries so far. Each of them is an action RPG with incredibly tough opponents who love to maim casual players. Many fans of the series are wondering if a fourth part will come out, so we've compiled all the details you need to know.

Has the Dark Souls story ended?
At first glance, it may seem that the Dark Souls series is not about the plot at all, but about suffering. However, any fan of the series knows that all three titles have a deep plot that covers not only the events of the games, but also events that took place years ago.
However, learning the whole plot of the game is not so easy. Hidetaka Miyazaki knows how hard the games are supposed to be. Therefore, you can learn the plot in the Dark Souls series only by finding items and weapons in various locations and dark corners, with a focus on environmental storytelling. Each of these items has a small description that sheds light on the events. You can also communicate with other characters and complete their quests to learn new information.
If you know all this, most likely, you went through all three games more than once and found all the items. Therefore, you should know that one of the endings in Darks Souls 3 ends the story of the endless cycles of First Flame. Many people have a logical question: will Dark Souls 4 come out at all, or will the series end with the third game and its conclusion?
Dark Souls 4 news
We will not beat around the bush here: there is no official news about the development of Dark Souls 4. Although fans hoped that FromSoftware had been developing this particular game since the release of Elden Ring, at The Game Awards 2022 it presented Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.
This is a game from another FromSoftware game series, which has been releasing since 1997. However, the devs could be working on other games at the same time, including Dark Souls 4. Perhaps players still have a chance to see the continuation of their favourite series.
At a previous conference, Hidetaka Miyazaki said that three entries, in his opinion, is the ideal size for a series of games. He also added that he does not want to create Dark Souls and Bloodborne sequels constantly. However, Dark Souls 3 has become the most successful in the series, and many fans are still waiting for a fourth entry.
The studio has released several titles with new styles and gameplay, namely Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring. We assume that in the future, FromSoftware will want to revive the Dark Souls series by releasing a title with refined mechanics and the best parts of previous releases. But, there is no official news about the development of the game. Therefore, we may see Dark Souls 4 some time in the future, or never at all.
What we’d love to see in Dark Souls 4
The latest FromSoftware titles are quite different from the Dark Souls series. We think some of the more recent features would be cool to add to Dark Souls 4. So, below, we have collected five new things we would love to see in a Dark Souls sequel.
Open world
Playing the Dark Souls series, players focused on the enemies' levels to understand if their character levels were high enough for this location. But in Elden Ring, players were a little confused, since it has a vast open world. This world feels really big and interesting. By finding pieces of the map, players can conveniently navigate through the locations, discovering new challenges as they go.
Day/night cycle
This feature is part of the previous Dark Souls game, and proved very popular. After all, there is nothing more boring than an open world in which there is no change of the time of day. Therefore, we want Dark Souls 4, if it ever comes out, to have a day/night cycle, which affects the spawning of enemies or their behaviour.
Improved parkour
Parkour in the Dark Souls series can be considered an Olympic sport, since even jumping over a small hole in the floor can become a difficult challenge. Therefore, we believe it would be nice to add more varied parkour and vertical exploration of the world to the series. But of course, it doesn't have to be like Sekiro. It would be enough if the players had an ability similar to the mount double-jump in Elden Ring.
Fall damage
The next feature we would like to see in a new Dark Souls game is reduced fall damage. Firstly, dying after falling from a height of several meters is hugely frustrating. Why can you defeat giant bosses, but cannot beat gravity after all? And secondly, it will also improve the parkour in the game, making movement more fluid.
Parry
Last but not least, an improved parry mechanic is crucial. The Dark Souls series already has a parry feature. With the right shield and timing, you could parry most of all attacks in the game. But we want something in the Sekiro style. We believe that a combination of several types of parries and classic dodges would allow players to have more variety in battles. The developers can then create more difficult bosses, with different attacks you can and cannot parry.
That's all that we know at the moment about Dark Souls 4. We hope that at least in the next five years we will be able to see the long-awaited sequel in the series. While you are waiting, make sure to check our list of the best action games for Android.
