DayZ: How to Find Food
Food comes in all shapes and sizes in DayZ, with canned food, vegetables, dry food, and drinks being available for looting throughout the map.
By killing animals and fish however, players can get a sizeable boost to their character's energy by consuming steaks. These can be consumed raw, dried (cooked without water or fat), burned (cooked for too long), boiled (cooked in water), or baked (cooked over a fireplace). Any raw meat not cooked and left for too long will turn rotten.
Mushrooms and vegetables can also be found and cooked in the same way, but they too can turn rotten.
Be sure to clear out your food inventory of perishables regularly, and keep the likes of cereal or powdered milk handy in case you need to consume them in a pinch.
