- EA denies reports that a Dead Space 2 remake was canned
- It turns out EA and Motive never did serious work on a remake of the sequel
- The series is on ice again, due to poor sales
EA has denied rumours that they canceled Motive’s Dead Space 2 remake, though that doesn’t mean they’re working on a revamped sequel. The company actually has no plans to remake this sequel, despite the first game getting a ton of positive press from fans and critics alike.
An EA spokesperson told IGN that “there is no validity” to a sequel getting canceled, as there were reportedly no plans to ever remake the continuation. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier did say that there were pitches to make a sequel, but they fizzled out before any serious work was put into it.
Schreir also says that a brand-new Dead Space game was pitched, alongside a Dead Space 2 remake, though both ideas were scrapped early on. The franchise is once again “on ice” as the first remake did not meet “internal targets,” whatever those targets are.
Gaming insider Jeff Grubb originally said that a sequel to the game was supposed to be made, but poor sales led to EA scrapping the project. While that wasn’t the case, low sales did impact EA and Motive’s interest in continuing the series it seems. The developers at Motive have now moved on to other projects.
Motive will be working on the next Battlefield game instead of a Dead Space 2 remake, as EA hopes to bring the franchise back into relevancy. Battlefield 2042 was considered a misstep by many, though the game has seen some renewed interest with some of the more recent seasons.
Another major game Motive will be working on is the upcoming Iron Man title for Marvel, which has plenty of fans excited. Details on this superhero game are slim, though Motive did say that this is a “top priority” for the company. We probably shouldn’t expect any major details on the game anytime soon, though it will likely come out on current-gen consoles.
EA won’t be making a Dead Space 2 remake anytime soon, which is unfortunate. Luckily, the original Dead Space 2 is still available on PC, so fans can purchase it right now.
