Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space, has teased their next project on social media. After the critical and commercial mediocrity of The Callisto Protocol, the iconic horror game director is working on something new.

Posting an update to Twitter, the Dead Space creator explained that he has been “extremely” busy working on his next project. He also told fans that the title will be revealed in 2024, after the New Year.

“Although I’ve taken some time off, I’ve been extremely busy & not just drawing. Something in games that’s new and exciting,” the developer told fans. “Can’t wait to share more after the New Year!”

Following the release of The Callisto Protocol, which was originally set to be part of the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds universe, Schofield’s studio was hit with layoffs by parent company Krafton. At the time of writing, over 30 developers have been laid off and Schofield has moved on from the studio.

With this in mind, the Dead Space creator could be working on an independent project or may have partnered with another publisher for his next title. However, this is all conjecture, as it’s not even known if the developer’s next project will even be a video game at all.

We were one of the more positive outlets upon the release of The Callisto Protocol, awarding it a nine out of ten. At the time, our critic Luke Hinton called it the “best new horror game of the year” in our Callisto Protocol review.

“As a survival horror fanatic, it was everything I could've hoped for, with astoundingly polished gameplay and a story that reminds me of some of my all-time favourite games,” our critic wrote. “As the first entry in what could become a new franchise, it's bold enough to distinguish itself with gruesome enemies and even more gorier deaths, and I really can't wait to see where the franchise goes.”

Unfortunately, it seems that The Callisto Protocol won’t get the chance to become a franchise, at least for the time being. While many were interested to see what a sequel could accomplish, Krafton may have already taken the franchise out back.
