Destiny 2 Ace of Spades Quest: How To Get The Exotic Gun

Beyond Light is set to bring a whole host of new content to Destiny 2 on November 10, but, unfortunately, it isn’t all good news. Many planets and locations will also soon be “vaulted,” meaning some of the game’s best quests, raids, and exotic quests will either get altered or made unavailable.

The following exotic quests will be changed when Beyond Light launches on November 10: Sturm, MIDA Multi-Tool, Rat King, Legend of Acrius, Sleeper Simulant, Polaris Lance, Worldline Zero, Ace of Spades, the Last Word, Le Monarque, Jotunn, Izanagi’s Burden, Thorn, Lumina, Truth, Bad Juju.

“None of these legacy exotics are being retired from Destiny 2,” Bungie clarified in an August 2020 blog post. “Their original acquisition journeys are simply entering the DCV alongside their supporting destination and activity content.”

What is the Ace of Spades in Destiny?

The Ace of Spades is my favourite gun in the game; it has everything you could want.

From a mechanical perspective, it has a few awesome features through its Momento Mori and Firefly perks.

Wiping out enemies with precision kills will see them explode into flames, as with the Sunshot. And, while aiming, you can still use your radar, just like the MIDA Multi-Tool.

Throw in the other bonuses the perks grant — which make the weapon deal bonus damage after a kill-reload as well as reload faster after a precision kill — and you have a gun that can cut through waves of enemies like a knife through butter.

The gun also serves a plot significance, too. Cayde-6 was one of Destiny’s most beloved characters, and carrying his old weapon around feels like the best way to remember him.

So if this has you convinced, here’s our guide.

Get the Ace of Spades exotic quest

First, you’re going to need to complete the main story of the Forsaken DLC.

This should see you avenge the Ace of Spade’s previous owner, Cayde-6, by wiping out all of the characters responsible for his death.

In doing so, you’ll retrieve the Ace of Spades, but it will be broken, so you’ll need Banshee-44’s help.

In exchange for collecting hand-cannon data, he’ll be able to deduce how to fix Cayde’s firearm.

If you don’t have one already, here’s where you’ll need another hand cannon. A few we can recommend are the Dire Promise, the Old Fashioned, IKELOS_HC_v1.01, and Thorn.

The Sunshot is also great for the first few objectives, but the others will be more useful at the Crucible stage.

Cayde’s Will quest step

The first three objectives require you to get kills with a hand cannon.

  • Kill enemies or invaders with a hand cannon in Gambit
  • Kill 250 enemies with a hand cannon in strikes
  • Get 25 precision kills with a hand cannon in Crucible matches

The first two will take a bit of time, but you should be able to blast through them pretty easily.

The Crucible challenge is more difficult, and will likely take you a lot more time.

Our advice is to use a hand cannon that deals a lot of precision damage, so you can get a kill in only a few shots.

Next, we’d recommend you play Momentum Control.

Any mode will work, but Momentum Control has weapons bumped up in power, and your radar is also disabled.

This will make you easier to kill, but the same’s true for everybody else.

If you aren’t much of a Crucible player, this mode levels the playing field considerably. You should get at least a few precision kills per match.

Finally, you’ll need to go exploring.

  • Open Cayde’s caches in the EDZ, on Nessus, Io, and the Tangled Shore
  • Complete the mission “Ace in the Hole” on Titan

The four caches are a bit tricky to find if you don’t kow where to look. Thankfully, YouTube has a multitude of great video guides, including the one below.

After that, you’ll just have one mission: “Ace in the Hole.”

It isn’t that hard; just pay attention to your HUD and look out for Cayde’s stashes when the symbol flashes up. You’ll also get an audio warning if you miss one, so you should be fine.

Complete it, return to Banshee, and you’ll be done. Enjoy your new weapon!
