Destiny 2 Cross-play Explained

For now, crossplay isn't possible in Destiny 2 between platforms. That means if you're on PC, you won't be able to play with PS4 or Xbox friends.

With the new console generations coming, cross-platform play will be enabled within the same console ecosystem. So you'll be able to play with your PS4 friends on your PS5, while Series X players can still play with Xbox One Guardians.

In the reveal stream for Beyond Light, Bungie confirmed that they are looking to "do the thing" and enable full cross-play in the next year or two.

Destiny 2 Cross-save/Cross-progression Explained

One of the big additions to Destiny 2 alongside the Shadowkeep expansion was the introduction of cross-progression. That means you can log in on your PS4, Xbox One, or PC and bring your characters with you.

That's really handy for players that play with multiple groups of friends, and it even works with Stadia, too.

To enable cross-save, you'll need to head to Bungie's site for it here. You can link PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Steam and Stadia.

Destiny 2 Cross-purchase/Cross-buy Explained

Destiny 2 is free-to-play on all platforms, but each expansion is a separate purchase. Unfortunately, there's no cross-purchase, so if you've bought Shadowkeep on your PS4 you'll still need to buy it on your Xbox One to play on that platform.

With the new consoles arriving, PlayStation 4 players will get a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version of the game. The game will also offer smart delivery on Xbox platforms, so your game and all of your expansions will be available on Series X at no extra cost.
