The Destiny 2 Guardian Games have returned in 2023. While not a lot has changed compared to previous years, with the introduction of Lightfall, a brand-new Strand subclass made its debut, with the festivities being the perfect way to introduce the first Strand Scout Rifle: Taraxippos

Strand weapons are new to the game, naturally, and if you want to maximize your build potential, you'll want to get your hands on as many as you can.

So far we've gotten virtually every type of weapon to receive a new Strand variant: Sidearms, Auto Rifles, Hand Cannons, SMGs, Sniper Rifles, Grenade Launchers, you name it. However, Scout Rifle enthusiasts had been missing out, until now at least.

Let's walk you through everything you need to know about the Taraxippos Scout Rifle, including how to farm and the best rolls for PvE and PvP.

The first-ever Strand Scout Rifle: Taraxippos!

There are two ways to get your hands on the gun, all involving Guardian Games.

  • Finish the Best In Class given to you by Eva Levante, which will grant you a guaranteed Taraxippos drop
  • Complete Guardian Games activities and light torches for a possible random drop. Higher difficult activity completions have a chance to drop a masterworked version with multiple perks

So with that out of the way let's talk about the gun itself and what you should be looking form in terms of perks.

It looks like Hung Jury but plays differently

While Lightweight Frames feel snappy and very good to use if you like rapid-fire weapons, the penalty to range feels counterintuitive when we're talking about Scout Rifles, which thrive in long-range affairs.

Essentially you'd want something to up the range of your Taraxippos, providing the stability or handling doesn't suffer too much as a result.

The first two columns have some interesting barrel and magazine combinations, although for the most part, if you land a perfect one for PvE, chances are that same perk combination will do wonders in PvP. The classics like Hammer-Forged Rifling, Smallbore, Accurized Rounds, Flared Magwell are all here and are fine choices.

In terms of actual perks, there are plenty of interesting choices to pick from: the perennial top-tier explosive payload is here, so that's a win for PvE users. Hatchling also makes an appearance, although it doesn't sound too enticing on a Scout unless you're running Warlock.

Other classics like Outlaw, Zen Moment, and more are also a part of the Taraxippos perk pool. Overall, here are our picks for god rolls in either PvE and PvP.

Taraxippos PvE God Roll

  • Column 1: Hammer-Forged Rifling or Smallbore
  • Column 2: Accurized Rounds, Alloy Magazine, Flared Magwell
  • Column 3: Outlaw, Zen Moment, Fourth Time's The Charm
  • Column 4: Explosive Payload

Taraxippos PvP God Roll

  • Column 1: Hammer-Forged Rifling
  • Column 2: Accurized Rounds
  • Column 3: No Distractions, Outlaw, Moving Target
  • Column 4: Kill Clip

The Origin Trait for this weapon is Classy Contender, which will grant you class ability energy when you hit final blows with Taraxippos.

Being an Omolon weapon, the secondary Origin Trait is Omolon Fluid Dynamics, which gives the weapon increased reload speed and stability for the top half of the magazine.
