The necromancer class in Diablo 4

The necromancer class in Diablo 4
June 2, 2023: Diablo 4 early access has finally arrived so we have checked over our information.

Diablo 4 classes will change how you play the game so they are worth paying attention to. If you've ever played a Diablo game before, or any action RPG before, then you're probably used to having a variety of classes to play as in-game. Well, with the highly anticipated release of Diablo 4, that rings true.

Given that Diablo has a long history, the classes that we will have at launch are all going to be familiar if you've played the game before. Most are returning classes, while some are very similar to older classes that we've had in the past.

Diablo 4 classes

There's a handful of classes that we're going to be getting, five to be exact with a potential sixth which we'll talk about at the end. But first, we'll cover the five classes we know we're getting for sure.

Diablo 4 Barbarian

The first class is the Barbarian. It wouldn't be a Diablo game without one. The Barbarian is the big brawler melee class. They wield large weapons, and have massive, impactful attacks. Their base attacks include skills like Bash, Flay and Frenzy.

Diablo 4 Sorceress

The next class is another returning favorite, the Sorceress. The Sorceress is a high-risk class that has powerful elemental spells, but at the cost of being more fragile. Some of their skills include things like Lightning, Fire Bolt, Frost Bolt and Arc Lash.

Diablo 4 Druid

The next class is a returning Diablo 2 favorite, the Druid. The Druid is the only shapeshifting class in the game, being able to turn into different forms. There's a few different ways to play the Druid, focusing on Shapeshifting forms, their nature based skills, or a combination of both. Some of their base skills include Earthspike, Shred, Storm Strike, Maul and Wind Shear.

Diablo 4 Rogue

The new class to the game is the Rogue. This is a nimble class wielding both one handed weapons like daggers, as well as a crossbow for ranged attacks. They act as a hybrid between the Assassin from Diablo 2, and the Demon Hunter from Diablo 3. They have three different specializations in their kit, changing how the class plays. These include Shadow Realm, Exploit Weakness, and Combo Points.

Diablo 4 Necromancer

The final class that we know of in Diablo 4 is the Necromancer, a returning fan favorite from Diablo 2 and 3. This class is the master of the undead, and it appears that this iteration is going to be closely tied to the Diablo 3 version. They have four playstyles, which include Blood, Bone, Darkness, and The Army.

Diablo 4 sixth class speculation

While we know that there's five classes in the game, there is some speculation around a sixth class being added to the game post launch. The image above is an updated, leaked image of an official class showcase image. Before recently, the image had the five classes in this scrap of a battle, but now there's a sixth standing tall in the middle of them all.

This sixth potential class is rumored to be something similar to a Valkyrie or Fallen Angel, as we see that they have Angel wings. It's definitely possible that this is a depiction of an ability. If this is the sixth class, then it fills a missing hole in the cast, that being a shield bearing character, and a character that utilizes holy spells for their kit. While nothing is confirmed by Blizzard about this at the moment, be sure to check back as we'll be updating this guide if any information becomes available about this speculative class.
