Now sure whether to choose the Eternal or Seasonal realm when creating a character during season one and beyond? Having to choose between the Eternal and Seasonal realms in Diablo 4 can be confusing if you don’t know what exactly they affect. The choice is not that hard once you know the key differences. But like what carries over into the first season and beyond, the water can get a little muddied along the way.
Basically, you only have one choice if you want to see seasonal content. Here’s what you need to know about the Eternal and Seasonal realms in Diablo 4 and which option is better.
Should you choose the Eternal or Seasonal Realm in Diablo 4?
In general, this choice is quite simple and we would recommend that you choose the Seasonal Realm. This is the only way to get access to seasonal content and various new features.
As for the Eternal Realm, it's basically a non-starter now. There's little reason to create a character outside of a seasonal realm. Characters from there will not be able to take part in the events of Season 1. Not only will they not have access to the season's new mechanics, with seasonal characters automatically transferring to the Eternal Realm once a season ends, it's really the best of both worlds.
What carries into the Diablo 4 seasonal realm?
The season system from Diablo 3 required the creation of completely new characters, with next to nothing bar the odd collectable pet or cosmetic item carrying over as account-bound goods.
Though you'll still have to create a brand-new character to take part in each new season, certain progress from your most-accomplished toon will always carry over to any subsequent character you create. There are a few conditions and limitations, however.
Campaign completion
So long as you've rolled credits on one character in Diablo 4, you'll be able to start a seasonal character (or non-seasonal, for that matter) without the need to run it again. This means you'll have post-game mechanics unlocked from the get-go, giving you more freedom when it comes to levelling your new character.
Map progress
Also a very important change. What's especially good is that it's no longer necessary to unlock all Waypoints for a second time. Anything you uncovered on your main will automatically uncover on your seasonal character, too.
Various Priority Quests
Priority sidequests - typically those that unlock new features like access to mounts - will auto-complete on a seasonal character if you cleared them on another. Having a horse at level one can really help speed things along.
Renown Progress
All your Renown will be transferred to the Seasonal Realm. That means you won't need to search for the Altars of Lilith you've already unlocked, and you'll automatically gain access to those bonus stat points and potions at level one.
Transmog
Finally, all the skins that you obtained in the Eternal Realm will be available to you in the Seasonal Realm. Whether you paid for them or gained them through salvaging equipment, you'll be able to use them again.
