With Diablo 4 launching day and date across PC and console for the first time in the series' long life, the recent open beta opportunities has caused an interesting and unique cauldron of conflicting impressions. The ability to turn off the fog and glare effects in Diablo 4 is at the forefront of the debate right now. Here's how to handle it.
Gripes with graphical effects constantly impairing your vision are understandable. Not only can they lead to occasional failures and missed abilities, but even the permanent death of your character on Hardcore mode. That argument alone should be enough to suggest you can turn them off. The reality (and the reasoning) is different.

Can you turn off fog or glare in Diablo 4?
Unfortunately, you can’t turn off the fog or glare effects in Diablo 4. At least not yet. But we wouldn't expect it to become a possibility, either. It's an atmospheric effect that's been present in the series since the onset.
Most PC players diving into the game likely already understand this, but anyone who hasn't played a game in the series before - likely brought in by the hype of its simultaneous release - might be encountering the glare for the first time.
If that's you, consider spending a bit of time with Diablo 2 and 3 before the new release. They're cheaper to try out, so they'll give you a good idea of what to expect before spending the big bucks on the latest entry. If you don't learn to live with it in the old games, the new game likely won't change your mind.
Will you be able to turn off fog or glare in Diablo 4 in the future?
We can’t say for sure if the developers are going to change something when the game is released, but we wouldn't suggest holding your breath for it, either. If the effects are deemed an accessibility issue, things could change. Right now, though, Blizzard would argue that removing them would mess with the game's graphical theme.
How to solve your problems with glare and fog in Diablo 4?
At the time of this writing, we can only recommend you go to the graphics settings and try to change them a little. For example, you could try to do something with the Fog Quality. Of course, this method won’t remove fog and glare, but it can help you to adapt the game’s graphics and make it look better.
