Do Monitors Have Headphone Jacks? Here's What You Should Know

If you're looking to upgrade your display, but aren't sure whether or not you'll be able to get a monitor with a headphone jack we're here to help.

When purchasing a new gaming monitor, the last thing you want is to buy a new display and then find out you need extra peripherals in order to access audio.

While many of the best phones to date have scrapped headphone jacks, are they still present on monitors?

Let's find out!

Do Monitors Have Headphone Jacks?

The short answer is both yes and no, as some monitors do feature headphone jacks, while others do not.

While most monitors will likely feature a headphone jack, whether or not a monitor does or not comes down to each individual display.

Usually, if a monitor does feature a headphone jack, it will be listed amongst the specifications, if there is no mention of one, your safest bet is to assume there isn't one.

Are There Different Types Of Headphone Jacks?

While the most common headphone jack is the 3.5mm analogue socket, they can also be found in both 2.5mm and 6.3mm sizes.

You'll likely find that most wired headphones and gaming headsets feature a 3.5mm and so you'll want to find a monitor with a 3.5 mm jack to match.

However, if you find a monitor that features a different size, for example, a 2.5mm slot, you can always purchase an adapter to use with a 3.5mm cable.

Do I Need A Monitor With A Headphone Jack?

Headphone jacks are useful for connecting both headphones and speakers to your monitor, however, they're not always a necessary input.

Many monitors come with built-in speakers which may mean having a headphone jack is made redundant.

If you're using a wired gaming headset on PS5 or Xbox Series X, you can plug your headset into your controller and so you do not need a monitor with a headphone jack for audio output.

Similarly, if you're playing on a PC, you can usually plug headphones, speakers or a gaming headset into your desktop instead of your monitor.

Some monitors may even feature Bluetooth which should allow you to connect any of the best wireless speakers or headphones without the need for a cable.

Whether or you require a monitor with a headphone jack ultimately depends on your individual set-up and situation.
