- Minecraft has a major bug that deletes your save
- Mojang warns players not to update the PC game through the Xbox app
- Players should wait for an update before playing
Minecraft is a game that needs to constantly be updated, to receive new expansions and DLC for players to use. However, Mojang has warned fans not to update the game right now on PC through the Xbox app, or players might lose access to all of their worlds.
On Twitter, Mojang Status warned fans not to update their PC game through the Xbox app, as an error will seemingly delete all of their progress. The devs at Mojang have told players to use the Gaming Services Repair tool on the app first before they play this addictive survival sim.
“Do not update Minecraft through the Xbox app on PC. If you do, your worlds may be lost. We recommend that you run the Gaming Services Repair Tool for PC before installing the Minecraft update,” writes the account.
While the warning is helpful, fans are annoyed at this because the Xbox app tends to get its updates automatically, so feel they’ve already lost their save. Admittedly, Xbox isn’t alone in this as several apps automatically update, though this seems to be worse than normal.
Losing all of your save progress in Minecraft sounds like a nightmare, especially for those who have poured hundreds of hours into the game. Hopefully, Mojang has plans to fix this issue so that players can freely update the game again through this app. After all, Microsoft owns Mojang, so knowing that the same company has messed up their app and game is embarrassing.
It’s a shame to see a huge game like this possibly get ruined by a bug since this is one of Xbox’s biggest cash cows. Players who’ve lost their saves are probably going to restart from scratch, but we’re sure some will be devastated enough to drop the game. Minecraft won’t die like its Legends and Dungeons spin-offs, but this is a tough blow.
Minecraft is readily available on Xbox, PC, and various mobile devices.
