The Stolen Throne is one of the quests you need to complete for Captain Brant once you reach the capital city of Vernworth in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This quest requires you to procure courtly raiment for a masquerade ball, where you’re looking to confront the False Sovran.

While acquiring the courtly raiment is no walk in the park, trying to find the False Sovran at the masquerade is perhaps even more challenging. Despite having a large yellow quest zone around the masquerade, the False Sovran is nowhere to be found, at least not in plain sight. Below, you can learn the secret about how to find the Dragon's Dogma 2 False Sovran at the masquerade so you can complete The Stolen Throne quest in DD2.

Dragon's Dogma 2 False Sovran location

When you enter the masquerade, you can go out onto the dance floor and mingle with the other party-goes or step out in the circular hallway that surrounds the dance floor. Your first thought might be the False Sovran is hiding his face with a mask and you need to uncover his identity, but that’s not the case.

Instead, you need to go out into the circular hallway and look along the stone wall for a hidden door. It’s pretty easy to miss, but you might see some dialogue subtitles coming from behind the wall if you’re lucky. You can see exactly where that hidden door is in the screenshot below:

The hidden door can be interacted with once you’re close enough, allowing you to sneak in and go up some stairs to the second floor of the castle.

When you’re up there, you’ll be met by a woman named Wilhelmina. You might have met this NPC earlier in DD2 during the “An Unsettling Encounter” mission, where you had to go to Allard’s chambers. However, if this is your first time meeting Wilhelmina, you’ll learn she’s a woman of the night and is interested in helping you.

She does this by shooing away guards that are looking for you and shows you a peephole to see into the False Sovran’s bedroom. When you look through the hole during a cutscene, you’ll see the False Sovran in bed with two women, but that is quickly interrupted by the Queen Regent barging into the room.

We won’t spoil what the Queen says to the False Sovran, but you certainly learn more about the Queen’s plans and what the False Sovran is doing in Vernworth.

After the cutscene ends, you can escape the castle, thanks to Wilhelmina, and return to Captain Brant to report your findings. Once that’s done, The Stolen Throne quest is complete in DD2, and you can move on to another quest for Brant, such as The Caged Magistrate. You can end up in jail during that particular quest, so check out our previous guide on how to escape from your cell if you find yourself in that situation.
