Breakdown
- Dragon's Dogma 2 players are killing NPCs to improve performance
- Players have discovered that NPCs are dragging down the game's performance
- NPCs die permanently if players don't revive them, this is very risky
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an excellent RPG but one that’s pushing current-gen systems to their limit, to the point that it occasionally drops below 30 FPS. Normally, fans should wait for a patch to stabilize the game, but they’ve decided to kill various NOCs in the game’s town to improve the RPG’s performance.
On the game’s official subreddit, fans have determined that NPCs are a major reason for the performance dropping at various times. Even funnier is that one post has suggested a community-made list of the NPCs players can kill without consequence, which is incredibly dark to think about.
NPCs will stay dead forever unless players revive them in Dragon’s Dogma 2, so this is a pretty risky move. While we understand the need for improved performance, killing off NPCs might lead to unintended consequences, like not being able to finish certain side quests. It will be interesting to see how Capcom responds to this and if they advise players on what not to do with the NPCs.
It is worth noting that some games do have options that minimize the NPCs on screen, which can help games with their performance. While Capcom didn’t give this game a Performance Mode, the company might want to give fans some satisfying graphics options to make the game run better. Hopefully, a future update will negate the need to kill NPCs just to improve the game’s performance.
Even if Dragon’s Dogma 2 is stuck at 30 FPS on consoles, the game is an excellent RPG fans can enjoy, regardless of performance. Granted, this is an action RPG with real-time control, so framerate does play a part in how well the gameplay is flowing. Still, the default experience is far from unplayable, so players may want to suck it up.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC. Check out our review of the game, where we gave it a perfect 10/10 score, despite some performance issues.
