At the start of Dragon’s Dogma 2, you are able to select from four different vocations: Fighter, Thief, Archer, and Mage. As you progress in the game, you’ll want to know how to unlock the Sorcerer and find the Archistaff.
The Sorcerer is a more damage-focused Mage, able to cast spells of great magnitude to utterly decimate enemies. However, you won’t be able to unlock the Sorcerer just by levelling up the Mage vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Instead, you need to complete a specific quest and find an Archistaff, the weapon of a Sorcerer, to fully unlock the vocation. Below, you can see how to start the Sorcerer quest in DD2 and where to find the specific Archistaff.
How to get Sorcerer vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2
To start, you’re going to need to make your way to the capital city of Vermund, Vernworth. You reach this location after the events at Melve unfold and you receive the quest to travel to the capital, which is south of Melve.
Once you’re in Vernworth, you need to head to the Vocation Guild, a location marked by two swords in a shield icon on your map. Here, speak to the NPC behind the counter and he’ll mention that a Greatsword and an Archistaff went missing in a cave infested with goblins. He needs both of these weapons if you’re to learn either the Warrior or Sorcerer vocation. This starts the side quest called “Vocation Frustration.”
After speaking with the Vocation Guild NPC, you can head over to the Smithy shop in Vernworth. The shop owner here has more information about the missing weapons, which are currently believed to be somewhere in Trevo Mine.
The Trevo Mine is located to the northwest of Vernworth, as seen in the screenshot below, and you can go there after speaking with the Smithy shop owner.
How to find Dragon's Dogma 2 Archistaff
To reach the Trevo Mine, simply follow the main bridge to the north of Vernworth and then bear left at the fork. From here, it’s a straight shot to the mine, which has several goblins standing outside of it. Defeat all the goblins, head inside, and take care of the rest of the enemies waiting for you.
Keep progressing through the mine until you find a small armoury room. Inside here, you’ll find a chest that has the Greatsword you need for the Vocation Frustration quest. However, you’re still looking for the Achistaff, which is found in a chest deeper into the mine. Go through the door inside the room with the Greatsword and keep going until you’re in an area with bridges.
The chest with the Archistaff is located at the very bottom of this area, below all of the bridges. You need to hop down the rocks until you reach the bottom level, which has the chest tucked away in a small corner of the room, as seen in the screenshot below.
Once you have the Archistaff, get out of Trevo Mine, return to the Vocation Guild, turn in the weapons, and you’ll unlock the Sorcerer vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You can change to the vocation at the guild; it costs 150 DCP to do so and you’ll start as a level one Sorcerer. Don’t worry, though, your other vocation will still be at the same rank if you want to swap back to it later on in the game. For more guides, check out how to beat a Cyclops and how to escape jail.
