If you've been struggling to get your head around the flower mechanics in Fae Farm, you're not alone. The rest of the game seems simple by comparison, with it being almost laughable that growing the desired flower is harder than most of the game's dungeons. Thankfully, a helpful player has put together a Fae Farm flower breeding guide to make the whole process a lot easier.
It's the perfect tool for players that have gotten through most of the game's story and are now looking to get into farming. Some romance candidates are only interested in black flowers, while certain fairy wings can only be bought from the Fae Mother once players have gotten flowers of a certain type and colour.
If you're still early in your Fae Farm journey, however, you might find our guide on unlocking fast travel helpful. If the game's final dungeon has been confusing you, our guide on crafting and using frost fuzz may prove useful, too.
How to breed flowers in Fae Farm
The game touches on the mechanics briefly, but there's very little hand-holding compared to some other parts of the game. Effectively, you're supposed to start by planting a three-by-three or H-shaped patch of flower soil beds.
Putting flowers in the corners of the soil beds will eventually see a hybrid grow in the spaces between them. Unlike the vegetables players are expected to grow, these flowers shouldn't be harvested if players want to see a hybrid grow. It's a process that seems to encourage endless trial-and-error.
Thankfully, a three-page guide by JadeMist Gaming was shared on Reddit to help players visualise the best way to get every type of flower, seen below. It is worth noting that flowers do not grow in the diagonal spaces between others, however.
The guide explains that flowers of certain colours must be placed in close proximity to create the ones seen in the leftmost columns. It'll be overwhelming at first, but as you start to recognise the flowers shown and work towards one or two in particular, it becomes a lot more manageable.
Beyond their aesthetics and gift potential, flowers can be sold for a pretty penny through the game's market tables. It's always worth keeping at least one of each flower around, though, just in case.
A video of the flower breeding is also provided by JadeMist Gaming, and helps reduce confusion with a voiceover showing the layouts and providing additional tips.
That's everything you need to know to start growing flowers like a pro in Fae Farm. While you're here, check out our guides on changing your character's appearance, or find out if the game has crossplay.
