Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks like it’s going to be one hell of a PS5 exclusive but certain ‘fans’ don’t like the game’s length. Apparently, taking 30 hours to get the Platinum Trophy is too short for these players, which is ironic since open-world titles are often criticized for bloating the length.
VGC’s Jordan Middler posted a screenshot from Kinda Funny Games' review of the superhero title on Twitter, showing how angry the comments section got when it came to the game’s length. Some of these gamers think that 30 hours is ‘too short,’ claiming that a $70 title should be an even longer experience.
Naturally, many gamers disagree, including Middler, who pointed out that a game double the length could be a lot worse. Open-world titles like Far Cry and older Assassin’s Creed entries gained a lot of flack for bloating their games with too many rudimentary tasks. In contrast, if the first Spider-Man game is anything to go by, a breezy open-world title with fun collectibles is way better.
Admittedly, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has had plenty of bad faith criticism that feels unwarranted, especially since the title isn’t out yet. Character designs have gained a mixed reception, with Mary Jane being the biggest victim, as weirder gamers love picking apart her appearance.
To be frank, a 30-hour game sounds decently long, especially since the sequel has a good number of villains to take on. In fact, the first Spider-Man game from Insomniac was around 30 hours and it was a favorite amongst many PlayStation owners.
Granted, the first game also had its fair share of bad faith criticism, so that’s something Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 just has to adapt. Many will remember how angry fans got when the Sam Raimi Spider-Man suit wasn’t part of the game’s Season Pass, only to be given as a free gift later on. Let’s also not mention Puddle Gate because everyone hates that.
