Final Fantasy VII Remake was a huge hit for Square Enix. When Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade was released, it included a DLC expansion introducing party member Yuffie.
Many fans thought Square would do the same with the PC port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but it looks like that won’t be the case this time.
Will FFVII Rebirth Get Episodic DLC?
In a recent interview with Epic Games, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed there won’t be any DLC chapters for Rebirth—even though the team wanted to provide one. He confirmed, “We did have the desire to add an episodic story as a new DLC to the PC version.” The plans were ultimately put on the backburner so the developers could work on the third entry in the Remake trilogy, which was branded the ‘highest priority.’
Even if that is the case, Hamaguchi has confirmed that, with enough buzz, the developers may add DLC to Rebirth. He explains, “… if we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them.”
One Request for Mods
Though there won’t be any official DLC incoming for Rebirth, Hamaguchi has also addressed the fact that a lively modding community exists for the game. A lot of this modding is dedicated to making some nsfw elements available in the game, and Hamaguchi formally asked the modders:
“While the team has no plans for official in-game mod support, we respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate.”
With characters like Jessie, Tifa, and Aerith inspiring fan art online, it may be too late for Hamaguchi to plea to the modders. At least fans know where he officially stands with them.
Rebirth for PC
The enhanced version of the Rebirth PC port reportedly includes improved lighting, textures, and modeling. Players can even purchase a twin pack that includes the enhanced version of FFVII Remake—FFVII Remake Intergrade.
“After escaping from the dystopian city of Midgar, Cloud and his friends set out on a journey across the planet. New adventures await in a vibrant and vast world – sprint across grassy plains on a Chocobo and explore expansive environments.”
With four years between the release of Remake and Rebirth, fans may have to wait until 2028 to finally get the conclusion of the trilogy. But with the expansion plans being put on the backburner, maybe Square is looking to release the third game in the series earlier?
Until new details are revealed, all fans can do at this point is speculate.
The PC port for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is expected to release in Jan. 23, 2025. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available for PS5.
