It has been announced that AS Roma will NOT feature in FIFA 21 for the first time.
EA Sports have informed us that the reason being is that Roma did not gran them the proper license to use the club's name and player likenesses in the upcoming release.
This isn't the first time an Italian club has pulled their name from the franchise - last year Juventus signed an exclusive deal with PES, meaning that EA was forced to call them Piemonte Calcio.
AS Roma Not In FIFA 21
With AS Roma not being included in FIFA 21, what will happen to the Serie A league in-game and those players? Will they be removed completely? No, they will still be included in some form.
EA Sports released a statement saying:
“AS Roma will now be Roma FC, playable and equipped with a custom badge and kit throughout Kick-Off, Career Mode, FIFA Ultimate Team and VOLTA FOOTBALL. And Roma FC will now compete in Stadion Olympik. You can still expect to see the same AS Roma real-world, authentic players and related likenesses in EA SPORTS FIFA 21 and EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Ultimate Team. Player Chemistry within EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Ultimate Team will be unaffected by these changes. We’d like to thank everyone at AS Roma for the years of collaboration as the team’s Official Sports Video Gaming partner.”
It's a shame to see another team partially removed from the biggest sports game in the world; especially another Italian team.
@FUTWatch tweeted an "unconfirmed replacement" for the Roma badge in the next FIFA title.
